Colorado 71, Tennessee State 44 Post-game Notes

December 19, 2003 | Men's Basketball

STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT...Colorado is off to their best start (6-1) since the 1989-90 season when that team started off 6-0 before losing to Hawaii on Dec. 9, 1989.  Colorado then defeated UC-Irvine to improve to 7-1 before they dropped five straight.  (That team ended the season with a 12-18 record).  This season's 6-1 start is the best in Ricardo Patton's eight-year tenure at CU.

3-0...Colorado is now 3-0 all-time against Tennessee State and 1-1 against the Ohio Valley Conference.

THE LAST TIME...The last time Colorado held an opponent under 50 points was on Jan. 4, 2000 at Denver (CU-73, DU 49).  The last time a team was held to only 44 points was on Jan. 27, 1999 when Iowa State only scored 44 in Colorado's 64-44 win.

HOME SWEET HOME...Tonight's win marks the 15th straight home win for Colorado at the Coors Events Center (a school best).  However, it ranks fifth in program history when Colorado used to play at the Balch Fieldhouse.

WILSON FOR THREE...Blair Wilson has hit a three-pointer in 12 straight games...third time this season he has hit 3+ treys, and the fifth time this season he has hit multiple 3s in a game.  The six three-pointers Colorado hit in the first half is more than they have hit in three games this season (Northwestern, Cal-Poly, Colorado St.)    He is 15 away from breaking Stevie Wise's record of 214 career three-pointers.

DEFENSE...CU held Tennessee State to an opponent-low 18 points in the first half.

BLOCK PARTY...David Harrison swatted three shots this evening giving him 19 blocks on the season (2.7 average).  He is only three blocks away from breaking Ted Allen's (1991-95) school-best 161.  He now stands with 159 blocks in his career.

SEEING DOUBLE-DOUBLE...David Harrison's 14 points and 10 rebounds gave him his third double-double effort of the season and 16th of his career.

GAME OF RUNS...Colorado posted two runs where they outscored Tennessee State by 10 or more points.  In the first half Colorado was up 16-11 before going on a 14-0 run and in the second half Colorado led 50-40 before going on a 10-0 run.  Colorado ended the game on a 21-7 run.

FINALS FRUSTRATION...The 27 point win tonight was the largest margin of victory for Colorado after finals week since a 101-71 win against Southern Colorado in 1984

AT THE LINE...Colorado shot 30.8 percent from the free throw line the fist half, the worst half of free throw shooting for the Buffs this season.

MISCELLANEOUS...Lamar Harris tied his career high in rebounds with 11.  Antoine McGee's six assists are a season high. Michel Morandais' six assists are a season high.
