BOULDER – Colorado men's basketball continues to fine-tune its operations ahead of the 2026-27 season, with its lone exhibition game, Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. against North Texas.
Branded the Mile High Hoops Classic, the game will be played at the Auraria Event Center on the Metropolitan State University of Denver Campus.
The Mile High Hoops Classic is designed to bring the Colorado men's basketball program closer to the Denver community, and the free exhibition will give Mile High City fans a chance to see the Buffaloes in their own backyard.
"We always expect people from Denver to come to Boulder to support us, and this is really a step in the right direction of taking our program to Denver," Colorado men's basketball Head Coach Tad Boyle said. "I want the Denver community to get to know our team, to get kids from Denver that don't have the chance to come to Boulder for a basketball game; they have a chance to go to Metro State and see our team."
Colorado Athletics is partnering with youth sports organizations in Denver to enable 300 kids to attend the game. The Buffaloes are expecting a packed house at the Auraria Events Center, as tickets for the free event in the 2,200-seat facility were claimed quickly.
"I definitely can't wait to play on Sunday," Colorado sophomore guard Ian Inman said. "It's been a long time since we played actual games in front of fans. I can't wait to play."
Colorado is led by fifth-year guard Barrington Hargress who averaged 14.7 points, 4.5 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 33 games last season. He set Colorado single-season records for assist-to-turnover ratio (3.6) and 3-point percentage (.481). Hargress led the Big 12 and ranked 10th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Inman and classmates Jalin Holland and Josiah Sanders round out the returning core that helped the Buffaloes reach 17-16 a year ago and advance to the College Basketball Crown. Holland averaged 4.9 points and 2.7 rebounds as a first-year Buff and ranked fourth on the team in steals. Sanders was Colorado's second-best offensive rebounder as a freshman with 36, and pitched in 4.4 points and 1.7 assists. Inman was fourth on the team with 22 3-point field goals.
Colorado will also rely on some intriguing newcomers. Forward Justin Neely ranked second in the nation in rebounding last year for UNC Greensboro at 11.5 per game and was the fourth-best scorer in the Southern Conference at 17.9 points per game. Noah Feddersen was the 2026 Summit League Sixth Man of the Year for North Dakota State, averaging 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds, helping the Bison to a sweep of the league regular season and tournament titles and an NCAA Tournament berth.
ABOUT THE MEAN GREEN: North Texas finished the 2025-26 season with a 19-14 record, tying for fifth in the American Conference at 9-9. Last season, the Mean Green averaged 70.9 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. North Texas sported the best scoring defense in the American, allowing 67.4 points per game. The Mean Green led the American and ranked 10th in the nation in turnover margin at 3.7.
Junior guard Je'Shawn Stevenson was named the American Preseason Player of the Year. He is the league's leading returning scorer, averaging 17.3 points per game. He was also a standout on the defensive end, ranking 34th in the nation in steals with 66, the second-most in a single season in school history.
UP NEXT: Colorado officially tips off the 2026-27 season against another school from the Lone Star State, Abilene Christian, on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at the CU Events Center.
