Colorado 80, Syracuse 45 Post-game quotes

December 30, 2003 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry

GENERAL: “I was very pleased with the way we played. I felt our bench played very well. Our young players are starting to come along a little bit more.”

ON PLAY OF RANDIE WIRT AND TERA BJORKLUND: “If you notice Randie and Tera didn't come out much in the first half. I tell you, and I don't want to start this too early, but we'll miss them next year. They do so much for us on defense and they really keep their composure. I think Amber and Maria were surprised to find themselves so wide open early because Syracuse really planned to double in on Tera and limit her touches. They were sacrificing by giving open shots to Randie and she comes in and hits three in a row.”

ON SYRACUSE'S LEADING SCORER ROCHELLE COLEMAN: “We knew Coleman would be tough, she was hard to defend last year at Syracuse. We knew they would shoot outside well”

ON CU'S 22 ASSISTS: “I wish I knew if there was a science behind it. Our players play unselfish and that is a function of our offense. There are players out there that will look for their open shot, but our players will pass it off if it isn't there.”

Colorado Senior Forward Randie Wirt

ON SYRACUSE PLAYING SUITING JUST SEVEN PLAYERS: “We expect to win every time, but the fact that they played only seven players didn't play into it. Coach Barry told us that those who did play were very disciplined players and we had to come out the same way as if they had brought the whole bench.”

ON BEING ABLE TO PLAY AT JUST FORWARD THIS SEASON: “I'm able to concentrate more. Last year in practice I would have to do a lot of post drill, but now I can solely work on the forward drills and I'm able to take a lot more shots in practice.”

ON EMILY WANER: “She's playing really good right now. She isn't afraid to take any shot and she is feeling a lot more comfortable about putting the ball on the floor right now.”

ON STARTING 10-1 FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON: “Our confidence is about the same. We know coming into the Big 12 schedule we have to pick it up from here.”
