Colorado vs. Washington, Post-game Quotes
December 09, 2003 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry
GENERAL: “Well, first of all, I felt like Kate (Fagan) had a brief break in there, but for the most part, she had her hand full with Giuliana Mendiola. I felt like Randie Wirt did a good job on (Andrea) Lalum. Overall, they never quit. They had a point guard who was hitting threes at the end of the game.”
ON WASHINGTON'S DEFENSE: “We knew coming in that they play a 1-3-1 defense and we felt like going into it that we could go to Tera in the 1-3-1 and get her the ball inside and she could go at Lalum 1-on-1. I felt like she (Tera) had a good percentage tonight and she had 26 points.”
ON KATE FAGAN SHUTTING DOWN MENDIOLA: “We didn't have another option. I thought we could go to Amber, in a bind we could have used Amber Metoyer on her.”
ON THE PLAY OF F ANNA NEDOVIC: “I thought she came in and gave us some offense and allowed us to rest Randie Wirt. She wasn't quite as aggressive on Lalum, but they kind of traded buckets. At least we stayed even.”
ON REBOUNDING: “That's all we worked on. We had the weekend off. After that, we blocked out, we talked about blocking out and for four straight days, that's all we talked about. My big concern was with both Mendiolas, they're good strong guards and they go to the boards well. Overall, I was really pleased.”
ON THE PLAY OF F AMBER METOYER: “I feel like Amber has really been pushing for more and more playing time and I think this is the most she's played tonight. She had a double-double. As she gets more comfortable with the defense she's going to blend in more with our starters.”
G Kate Fagan
ON GUARDING GIULIANA MENDIOLA: “With losing Whitney (Law) to a knee injury, I knew I would be playing 36 to 40 minutes per game. Randie was there when I lost her and we had a lot of players switching in on her. We knew we had to guard her wherever she goes. She's an impressive player. She's got a
ON TAKING OVER THE GAME: “I'm out there a lot at the guard spot and Emily (Waner's), who's only a freshman, is out there or Amber (Metoyer) who's had a lot of minutes but is still only a sophomore is out there and I think Tera, Randie and I have just been trying to get everyone into the right spots.”
C Tera Bjorklund
ON REBOUNDING: “The last four days of practice, all that we've worked on is rebounding. The repetition paid off. As soon as we saw a shot, we found our player and boxed her out. When you look at the film of them, they had five people going to the boards and I knew it was important for everybody to go to the boards, not just the post players if we were going to be successful.”
F Amber Metoyer
ON HER NIGHT: “Coach Barry told me at the beginning of the night that they leave the middle open and the baseline open and I'd have to go in there. I've been shooting from the outside a lot and she said that she'd like to see me drive in, so I tried to.”
GENERAL: “I think the pressure defense was right there. They (

GENERAL: “It's tough when you don't have the crowd and it's not as exciting as when you're playing at home. We needed to bring it. I think rebounding definitely had a lot to do with it. They (
ON C TERA BJORKLUND: “We knew she was a great post player and I thought we did a good job containing her. We just couldn't shut off points from the outside. Our defense wasn't there and we had no pressure on the ball. I give props to Tera. She is a great post, but and she doesn't threaten the outside
