Kansas State 67, Colorado 59

February 28, 2003 | Women's Basketball

* Colorado scored its 15th point tonight with 10:42 remaining in the first half; in the first meeting in Manhattan on Jan. 11, KSU led at intermission, 34-15. That gave CU a 15-9 lead; as (bad) luck would have it, the Buffs missed their next 11 field goal attempts, but KSU scored managed only a 12-5 run to take a 21-20 lead between CU makes. CU ended the half making just one of its final 16 shots, but KSU made just one of its last eight. CU had the biggest run (6-0), while KSU had two 5-0 spurts.

* CU did not commit a turnover in the second half; in fact, it did not have one in the final 31:16. The zero is a low for a half for the team this year (previous low: four in the first half against Villanova and tonight, and in the second half against Nebraska). The four in the game tied the school low, previously set against Utah in Boulder on Jan. 7, 1989.

* Speaking of turnovers, CU forced Kansas State into a conference game high 21 tonight; KSU's previous high? 19 against Colorado in the first meeting. That means 40 of K-State's 225 turnovers in league play came against the Buffs (18%). The Wildcats had no steals, a season low (they had at least three in every game and at least five in each Big 12 contest); that was also a game low for a CU foe in '02-03 (Oklahoma had 1).

* CU held K-State to its lowest point output in a half this year (23 in the first); the Wildcats previous low was 24 in their 65-53 win over Baylor (ironically, KSU led by one at the half, 24-23, in that game as well).

* Colorado now leads the series, 29-22, as this marked only the fourth time KSU has swept the regular season games (CU has nine season sweeps). CU leads all-time in Boulder by a 14-7 edge.

* The league's top rebounding team, Kansas State, outrebounded the Buffaloes, 53-34,though CU hung in there for a while. KSU had just a 24-19 edge at the half, but held an 18-7 advantage over the first 10 minutes of the second half to take control of the boards.

* Tera Bjorklund. Junior Tera Bjorklund led all scorers with 24 points, the 15th time she's led the team in scoring this year, and the third straight time she's gone for 20 (22, 22 and 24) and 10th time overall in 2002-03. She took a career-high 25 field goal attempts tonight.

* Final Regular Season Attendance. Tonight's crowd of 6,728 pushed CU's home attendance to 42,748 for 14 home games, an average of 3,053. That's about 9.6% ahead of last year at this time; CU averaged 2,786 for 15 regular season games in 2001-02, with the final average of 3,016 including two home NCAA tournament games. In Big 12 games, CU averaged 3,568, a little ahead of last year's 3,508 figure.
