No. 37 CU Defeats No. 75 KU, 5-2

LAWRENCE, Kan. - A day after being upset by No. 39 Kansas State, the Colorado women's tennis team rebounded and defeated No. 75 Kansas, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the Robinson Courts on the campus of the University of Kansas.

CU improves to 10-6 overall and to 3-5 in the Big 12, while the Jayhawks drop to 7-8 overall and 3-5 in the conference. Sunday's win was the third in its last five against Kansas and only CU's eighth win in 30 matches since 1979.

The CU women took four singles slots in addition to the doubles point to win their 10th match of the spring. Doubles teams of Lia Dimingo/Dominique Lemperle and Morgan Sall/Kendra Strandemo at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions won 8-6 and 8-3, respectively to secure a 1-0 CU lead. In singles, Lemperle, Dimingo, Sall, and Jessica Vanderdys each were victorious to round out the four of six singles wins.

Lemperle won for the seventh time this spring at the No. 1 spot taking a three-set win over Courtney Steinbock, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-1 and at No. 3 Dimingo won her second spring match at that position taking a tough 6-7(5), 7-6(3), 6-2 decision over Emily Haylock. Vanderdys cruised to her eighth win at No. 5 taking a 6-1, 6-2 winner and at No. 6 Sall won her 11th match with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) decision.

In addition to her 11th win at the No. 6 singles position, Sall also improved her junior season to an impressive 21-7 record, including her last 10 in a row. Overall, Colorado's No. 4 through No. 6 singles positions are a striking 29-5 this spring. Sall is 11-2 at No. 6, Strandemo is 10-2 at No. 4, and Vanderdys is 8-1 at No. 5.

Colorado closes out the regular season with three straight matches against Big 12 foes with Nebraska (April 12/11 a.m.), Baylor (April 13/10 a.m.) and the season finale against Oklahoma on April 19 at 11 a.m.
