Torres Sets School 5K Mark

Stanford, Calif. - On the heels of being named CU's Male Athlete of the Year, senior Jorge Torres set a new school record in the men's 5,000 meters with his winning time of 13:24.56 in the men's invitational heat at the Cardinal Invitational.

It was Torres first 5,000 meter run of the season, and tops his previous best time of 13:26.00 set nearly a year ago to the day (May 3), beating several professional runners and some of the best collegiates in the nation en route to the fastest time in the NCAA this year.

Torres wasn't the only Buffalo supplying fireworks, as sophomore Sara Gorton continued her remarkable season with a pr time of 4:15.48 (second place) in the women's 1,500, the fifth-fastest time in school history and nationally this year. Gorton has now set personal bests this season in the 5,000 meters and the 1,500 meters.

Molly Austin and Brianna Torres both ran in the women's 5,000 meter race, with Austin placing fifth in 16:30.65 and Torres 14th in 16:56.65. Both times are regional qualifying marks.

The Buffs return to action on May 17 in Austin for the Big 12 Championships.
