Kerr's Career Ends At Regionals

Tempe, Ariz. - The most prolific player in Colorado women's golf history, Erin Kerr's collegiate career came to a close here Saturday as the senior carded an NCAA West Regional final round 77 to finish in 48th place with a three-day total 231, which fell 14 strokes shy of becoming the first Buff to advance to the NCAA Championships.
UNLV's Sunny Oh, the top player in the field from the first through final loop, won the national qualifier with a three-round 5-under-par 211. Both Oh and Lindsay Morgan of Washington (217) were the top two individuals not affiliated with one of the eight qualifying teams to advance to the NCAA Finals later this month in West Lafayette, Ind. Fourteen more individuals separated Morgan and Kerr.
The team leader since the first round, Southern Cal took the team title with a 54-hole 6-over-par 870 total, and paced a qualifying field of eight teams which included Oklahoma State (880), UCLA (892), Pepperdine (894), Arizona State (902), Ohio State (902), Washington State (904) and Stanford (905).
Regionally, Denver finished with a share of 16th place and the Pioneers' Kate Waggoner finished a team-high 44th (76-80-74-230).
Kerr parred (35) the front nine of the 6,256-yard Karsten Golf Course, and even recovered from some early back nine bogeys, but tripled the tournament's final hole in part to a water hazard, for her final 5-over scorecard today.
In just three seasons at the foot of the Flatirons, Kerr will graduate from Colorado in December, with 11 individual school records to her name, including career low strokes average (76.4) and most top-20 tournament finishes (22) as well as being the first player in the program's seven-year history to advance to NCAA play, doing so as a junior and senior.
"She's definitely raised the level of play at Colorado," said Anne Kelly. "She's the best player to ever come through the program and a player of her caliber helps bring other players in."
Kerr will have little time to dwell on this week's tournament, as she will play a U.S. Open qualifier Monday at Alta Mesa, just outside the Phoenix city limits.
