Colorado vs. UNC Post game quotes
January 10, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ricardo Patton
ON THE LAST TWO GAMES: “I didn't see any sign of us developing bad habits. The problem with playing teams like this is some guys who think they're shooters always think they are open. But I thought overall we were pretty patient. I think we met our goals that we set for this game. We out rebounded and took care of the basketball. I think the one area that we did not do a good job was free throw shooting. But, that stat is somewhat misleading. We had guys who are not great shooters getting to the line.”
ON G JAYSON OBAZUAYE: “I liked Jason tonight. I think he gives us a better advantage at point guard. Defensively he adds a lot. Everything starts with the point guard. It starts with him on offense and it comes to him first on defense. He's a guy who if he gets in the lane he can finish over guys because of his strength and size.”
ON BIG 12 PLAY: “I think we are as ready as any other team or coach in this league. There is a lot of basketball left to be played. I don't think because we lost the Kansas game that our season is over. I would not say that if we lost to Nebraska. Basketball has a long season.
“I think more than anything, the Richmond and Utah losses surprised us, more than anything. Our players went into those games with a lot of confidence. Confidence comes from doing the right things, and I think that's where we broke down (in the losses).”
Northern Colorado Head Coach Craig Rasmuson
GENERAL: “ I don't fault our guys completely, and I think Colorado grabbed the possession early. We don't have the size in practices, and it is hard to simulate a team like Colorado. They (Colorado) really owned the boards tonight, and their blocks were huge. I think we rebounded more in the second half, and started to attack the free throw line, but it wasn't enough. This was really our first test, and I do credit our kids. We had some turnovers early, but I thought we got it back and stayed with them more towards the end, which made the final score more respectable. We couldn't answer in size this time, and three of our biggest players are hurt right now. (Trei) Steward came in and did an amiable job, but he had some early foul trouble, and it was tough to match-up. We wanted to limit (Blair) Wilson, because you have to choose your poison. It was either limit Blair (Wilson) or (Michel) Morandais, and we thought we could match up better against (Blair) Wilson. (Michel) Morandais ended up hurting us, and David (Harrison) was just too powerful for our double-teams.”
ON COLORADO DEFENSE “We had a good taste of shots being blocked, and their (Colorado) ability to do so makes a big statement. I think if we had the chance to play them again we may not win, but our guys would get after it differently. That is what you have to do-you live through those experiences, and find a way to get better.
ON COLORADO C DAVID HARRISON “David Harrison is a pro. When we actually looked at Colorado on film we felt pretty good, because it looked like they (Colorado) didn't give him many touches, but they did a good job of that tonight. I watched Coach Patton's comments earlier and he mentioned they were going to try and give David (Harrison) more touches, and they did just that.”
GENERAL: “It feels good to win. It's a great feeling. Last season we had a saying, “fight for the feeling.” This year we took that feeling for granted, and we need to work for it.
G/F Blair Wilson
GENERAL “In this game we wanted to win, and to feel the excitement. It was hard to get excited for these past two games. We were looking forward to playing the Big 12 games, and it has been hard to get intensity, and it's easier to get excitement for the games that matter. (
