COLORADO ROLLS TO 98-47 VICTORY OVER BUFFALO

January 03, 2004 | Women's Basketball

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Kate Fagan made seven of Colorado's school-record 16 3s and scored 24 points for the 13th-ranked Buffs in a 98-47 victory Saturday night over Buffalo.

Tera Bjorklund added 16 points, Amber Metoyer and Emily Waner 12 each and Leslie Howard 11 for Colorado (11-1).

“Tonight was similar to the last few games we have played,” head coach Ceal Barry said. “We dominated on the court, but we need to be focused and not trip up these last few weeks.

“I told the girls at the beginning of the season that we were going to be a better team by the end of December and we are. We are ready for the rest of the season, we are healthy and we have about 10 players who can be out in the game.”

Brook Meunier led Buffalo (1-7) with 13 points, all in the second half. Jessica Kochendorfer had nine points and 11 rebounds for the Bulls.

Colorado opened the game with a 21-4 lead and was in front 42-14 at the half.

The Bulls shot 35 percent ? including 16 percent from beyond the arc. Colorado was 49 percent from the floor and 43 percent from 3-point range.

Ten of the 11 Buffs scored points for Colorado who has won three consecutive games by 30 or more points, while tonight's 51-point margin of victory was the largest on the season, and biggest since a 96-44 victory over Bowling Green on Nov. 23, 2001.

Bjorklund's 16 points came in 22 minutes of play on a 7-of-8 effort. Bjorklund is a combined 13-of-15 over the last two games.

The Buffs now turn their attention to Big 12 play which opens on Wednesday night. Colorado will travel to Waco, Texas to take on Baylor in a 6 p.m. tip on Jan. 7.

“Right now we are just focused on Baylor, and starting out the Big 12 strong,” Fagan said. “If we can get two wins next week then that would be a good start. I think the teams we are going to play will be more like Notre Dame, Washington and USC, but playing some weaker teams in between has still been good experience for us.”

The Buffs next home action comes at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 10 when they face No. 12 Kansas State.
