BUFFALOES ROLL TO AN 81-66 VICTORY OVER BAYLOR
January 31, 2004 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER ? Fueled by David Harrison's perfect 10-of-10 effort from the floor, the Colorado Buffaloes recorded an 81-66 win over Baylor on Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.
Harrison set a school record for most shots made without missing, breaking the previous mark of 9-of-9 set on Dec. 29, 1979 by John Addison.
“I was hitting my shots,” Harrison said. “I hit a left-handed shot that I was surprised went in. I have been making my shots through and around contact in the last two games. I have been playing well; hopefully it will continue. I thought I missed at least one or two shots tonight, I didn't realize that I had made them all.”
Harrison led all scorers with 26 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double on the year, and the 21st of his career. Michel Morandais added 21 points and seven assists as Colorado (12-6, 4-3 Big 12) won its second consecutive conference game.
“That was a really good effort by Baylor,” head coach Ricardo Patton said. “I thought they came in and fought their hearts out. We told our guys before the game that every game for (Baylor) is an NCAA (tournament) game. They are looking to be the spoiler for teams. We jumped out early, though, and our guys played well. It was a good win.”
Harvey Thomas led the Bears (6-13, 1-5) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Terrance Thomas also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.
Colorado had no trouble handling the struggling Bears as the Buffs jumped out to an early 17-5 lead. The Bears narrowed the lead to 10 points on four occasions ? as late as the eight-minute mark of the second half ? but would get no closer.
The Buffs shot 58.8 percent on the night, their second consecutive shooting performance of more than 50 percent and the seventh time on the season, with each of those games resulting in a Buffalo victory.
Colorado held a commanding advantage in rebounds throughout the first half, nabbing 22 to the Bears 11 and would go into the break with a 40-24 lead. Baylor stepped up its performance in the second half out-rebounding the Buffs 18 to 10.
Colorado will try to take its winning ways on the road as they prepare for a Wednesday night match up at Texas. Tip time is set for 6 p.m. in Austin, Texas.
