NURMI ADVANCES AT ITA CENTRAL REGIONAL

TULSA, Okla. ? Veera Nurmi won her first two qualifying matches Tuesday morning at the 2004 Wilson/ITA Region V Women's Tennis Championships hosted by the University of Tulsa.
Nurmi, a freshman from Finland won her third and fourth matches of the fall, was one of three University of Colorado women participating in the qualifying opening round. Others seeing action were Jenny Hanson and Gleisy Torres Torres.
Hanson fell to Christy Greenly of Oklahoma, 7-6, 6-4 in the Round of 64; and Torres Torres went 1-1 on the day defeating Karolina Rowinski of Wyoming, 6-1, 6-4, then fell to seventh seed Lucy Scott of New Mexico, 6-7, 6-3, 10-4. Torres Torres, a freshman from Venezuela had won six in a row prior to her defeat in the Round of 32.
Nurmi defeated Liz Garza (South Missouri State) 6-4, 6-4, then rallied to defeat Olgo Kumova of Kansas State 6-7, 6-3, 10-4.
Day two continues all day on Wednesday with main singles draw and the doubles Round of 32.
