Colorado Postgame Notes

u      Name-less Jerseys.  Colorado voted as a team on Wednesday not to have nametags on the back of the jerseys this week, and to play for the one name on the front?Colorado.

u      First Career Start.  WR Tyler Littlehales started in place on Ron Monteilh, as on Thursday he didn't have as much motion as hoped in his shoulder.

u      CB Terrence Wheatley.  He had his first career interception today, returning it 37 yards for a touchdown; he is the third Buffalo this year to return an interception for a touchdown, joining Brian Iwuh (vs. CSU) and Joe Sanders (vs. Washington State)?it was the first career interception for all three.  Dating back to 1992, 12 Colorado players have now returned their first career interceptions for scores (complete note on page 27 of CU weekly release).

u      Scoring Streaks.  CU added to its school record consecutive game scoring streak, extending it to 192; that is the longest streak in the Big 12 Conference and the seventh longest in the nation.  CU has scored in 105 straight games at Folsom Field and in all 71 in Big 12 Conference play.

u      First Quarter.  Wheatley's INT return were the only points in the first quarter; Texas came in outscoring its opponents 103-24 in the opening quarter, CU its by 47-28.  Oklahoma was the only other team to keep Texas scoreless in the first quarter this year.

u      First Half.  In the first half, Texas had 14 first downs to CU's 1; the Longhorns ran 20 first down plays for 113 yards, or 5.7 per play; CU ran six for minus-7, or -1.2 per play.  Twenty-one of UT's 46 plays were run on CU's side of the 50.  For the game, UT wound up with 34 first down plays for 197 (5.8), while CU finished 24-for-71 (3.0).

u      In the game, Texas ran 44 plays in CU territory for 199 yards; Colorado 16 for 57 in UT territory.

u      The James Cox-to-Joe Klopfenstein 45-yard pass in the fourth quarter was the longest play from scrimmage by Colorado this season.

u      Texas led 30:52 of the game, Colorado for 18:18.

u      The last two visits to Boulder, the Longhorns have shut down CU offensively.  While outscoring CU 59-21, two of CU's three touchdowns have been defensive scores; in 2000, in a 28-14 win, Colorado ran 72 plays for 133 yards, and today ran 55 plays for 221.  So in the last two games against Texas, CU has struggled to 354 yards on 127 plays (2.7).

u      Colorado Rushing.  The Buffs had 18 rushes for 3 yards (16 for 23 not including sacks); the 3 yards are the seventh lowest in school history, the fewest since Alabama held CU to minus-11 in the 1991 Blockbuster Bowl.

u      P John Torp.  For the fourth time this season, Ray Guy Award candidate John Torp has punted for a 50+ average in a game with at least three punts (three times with five or more).  Today he averaged 50.8 on six punts, the 20th best gross punting day in school history (he owns the 10th, 12th, 18th and 20th); his net average was 46.0.  On the season, he has now punted 40 times for a 47.05 average, coming into the week as the No. 4 punter in the NCAA.

u      QB Joel Klatt.  Klatt became the fifth quarterback in Colorado history to top the 4,000-yard mark in career passing, as his 142 today gives him 4,068 in 22 career games.  Only Kordell Stewart and Mike Moschetti reached the plateau in fewer games.

u      Texas' 397 yards on offense was the low by a Colorado opponent in 2004; Iowa State had 403 and Washington State 402.  CU's 221 was the second lowest total, after 125 against Washington State.
