MIDDLES SHINE AS BUFFS SWEEP KANSAS

BOULDER ? Colorado sophomore middle blockers Lara Bossow and Austin Zimmerman combined for 24 kills, 10 blocks and hit a whopping .647 to lead the Buffaloes to a 30-23, 30-22, 30-21 Big 12 Conference win over Kansas on Saturday night at the Coors Events Conference Center.

           
Colorado wins its second-straight, improving to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12. KU drops its fifth straight, falling to 10-6 overall, 1-6 in league play.

           
Zimmerman had 13 kills, tying junior Maragda Santillana for the team lead. She hit .579 (13 kills-2 errors-26 attacks) with a match-high six blocks. Bossow hit a career high .733, netting 11 kills on 15 attacks with no errors. She also had four blocks and a pair of aces.

           
CU hit .293 as a team (54k-20e-116att) while holding
Kansas to .114 (35k-22e-114att), including just .041 over the final two games (21k-18e-73att). The Buffaloes out-blocked Kansas 14-8 as CU recorded double-digits in team blocks for the eighth time this season and the fourth time in the last five matches.


Santillana hit .423 (13k-2e-26att) with seven digs and two blocks. Sophomore Ashley Nu'u had 39 assists, five blocks and four kills. Nu'u registered her 1,000th career assist on the final point of the match, becoming just the seventh player in team history to reach that milestone.

           
Colorado is off on Wednesday, its bye in the Big 12 schedule, returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Oklahoma.
