TOPEKA, Kan.- Senior cross country standout Renee Metivier earned CU Athlete of the Week honors after winning her first Big 12 Conference Individual Championship this past Saturday at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Topeka, Kansas.

Metivier continued her season long dominance with her individual title, and helped the Buffs cruise to their sixth- straight women's team Big 12 title and their 10th in 11 years.  The Highland Village, Texas (Marcus) standout finished with a time of 20 minutes 28 and one half seconds ahead of teammates Sara Slattery (21:08:97) and Christine Bolf (21:13:83).

Next up for Metivier and the Buffs is the 2004 NCAA Mountain Region Championships, Nov. 13 in Fort Collins, Colo.  The top-two teams in each race, and the top two individuals, not on one of those two teams, earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Others Nominated for this week's award were Allie True (Soccer), Hannah Hoch (Women's Golf), John Torp (Football), Allie Griffin (Volleyball), Lynzee Kever (Women's Tennis), Marko Bundalo (Men's Tennis), and Brent Vaughn (Men's Cross Country).

Women's Soccer: Allie True, Sophomore, Alamo, Calif.
True, the sophomore transfer, sealed Colorado's first-ever win at Nebraska when she scored her second goal as a Buff, and second of the game when a Kathryn Grandinetti serve to Katie Griffin was headed to her and one-timed past Nebraska goalkeeper Katie Wright in the 66th minute.  In just 32 minutes she pestered Wright with a game-high five shots and game-high three on goal.  The win improved the Buffs from a five seed to a three seed; their second-highest ever finish in the league standings going into next week's Big 12 Tournament.

Women's Golf: Hannah Hoch, Sophomore, Turlock, Calif.
In a Kent Youel Invitational field that included second-ranked Arizona State and fifth-ranked UCLA, the sophomore was tied with UCLA's Charlotte Myorkas for first place after carding a season-low first-round 69 that included four birdies and par on 12 additional holes. She slipped to third after the second round, and finished eighth with a 69-72-77-218 scorecard.

Football: John Torp, Junior, Louisville, Colo.

Torp may have been one of the lone bright spots for CU in this past weekend's 31-7 loss to Texas. The junior executed six punts for 305 yards, a 50.8 average. Torp boomed a 57 yarder, his long of the day, and had one inside the 20.

Volleyball: Allie Griffin, Junior, Baton Rouge, La.

Griffin led Colorado past Texas Tech 30-19, 32-30, 28-30, and 30-28 in a Big 12 Conference match Saturday evening at the Coors Events Conference Center. The Buffs snapped their four-match losing streak, improving to 11-9 overall and 6-7 in league play. Texas Tech fell to 8-11 overall and 4-9 in the Big 12. Griffin tied a season-high with 25 kills and added 14 digs and five blocks, tying a personal-best with 28.5 points. Only a few days earlier, No. 4 Nebraska hit .368 as a team defeating CU 31-29, 30-12, 30-23 at the Nebraska Coliseum. Colorado managed to hit just .110 in the match with 36 kills on 109 attacks and 24 errors. Griffin had a team high 12 kills and was the only one to reach double-digits.

Women's Tennis: Lynzee Kever, Sophomore, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Kever, the second semester freshman, won CU's lone point in a 4-1 loss to BYU at the central regional playoffs played at the University of New Mexico. Kever won in straight sets at the No. 1 singles position and earned her sixth victory in eight attempts this fall, bringing her collegiate ranking to 67th nationally.

Men's Tennis: Marko Bundalo, Junior, Pancevo, Serbia & Montenegro

Bundalo lost his Flight A first round match only to rebound and win four straight in the Consolation West Draw at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Alabama. Along the way, Bundalo defeated two nationally ranked players (No. 45 from Southern Mississippi, No. 78 from Miami) in the consolation semifinal and final rounds. Bundalo wraps up the fall tennis season with a team-best 11 victories.

Men's Cross Country: Brent Vaughn, Sophomore, Aurora, Colo.

Vaughn (24:08:82) was edged out by Kansas' Benson Chesang (24:07:43) for the individual Big 12 Champion title by just over one second, but helped the men's team claim their ninth consecutive Big 12 team title dating back to 1996.
