2005 Outlook: A multi-school record holder and All-American, Slattery will continue to have a big impact in her last season.

2004: Redshirted, and did not compete.

2003: Slattery advanced to the NCAA Championships in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter during the indoor season. She claimed the top two marks on the team in both events and won both events at the Big 12 Championships. She bested both of those season-highs at the NCAA Championships. In the 3,000-meter, she claimed third place at the NCAA Championships (9:07.16), but set a meet, stadium, Big 12 and CU record with her first-place NCAA finish in the 5,000-meter run (15:39.25). She picked up where she left off in the outdoor campaign, recording team-best times in the 800, 1,500 and 5,000-meter events. In the 1,500, she claimed first place at the Big 12 prelims (4:26.47) and went on to claim second-place honors in the Big 12 Finals with her season-best time of 4:19.14. In the 5,000, she claimed first place finishes at the Big 12 Championships, NCAA Regionals and NCAA Prelims before finishing the year with a third-place showing at the NCAA Finals (15:40.13).

2002: Slattery was the Big 12 Champion in the outdoor 5,000 meters where her 16:11.83 time set a meet and stadium record. Slattery then went on to finish fourth in the NCAA Championships (16:02.08) and earn All-American accolades. Slattery’s 15:51.55 time at the Cardinal Invite set a personal record and gave her an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Slattery also took third in the outdoor 800 meters (2:16.73) at the Air Force Quadrangular. Slattery had a remarkable season running several long distance events indoors and outdoors. She won the mile run at the Big 12 Championships, as her 4:40.35 time set a CU and a meet record and gave her an NCAA automatic qualifying time. She finished sixth in the NCAA Championship preliminaries (4:44.01) and was seventh in the finals (4:44.45) making her an All-American. In the 3,000 meter run, Slattery finished first in the Air Force Invite (9:30.26) and second at the Big 12 Championships (9:26.26). In the outdoor 1,500 meters, Slattery finished third at the ASU Invite (4:24.69), and had three other third place finishes and one sixth place finish in the event. She took home fourth in the Big 12 Championship finals and set a personal record (4:21.77) making her an NCAA Provisional pick.

2001: During the indoor season, she came away with titles in the mile run at the Air Force Invitational, and the Nebraska Quadrangular where she broke a CU record and earned an NCAA automatic qualifying mark. She already took care of being Big 12 Champion in the indoor mile run with a time of 4:43:57, after placing second in the prelims. She almost won another championship that same day in the 3,000 meter run (9:19:46) but fell short and had to settle for second place. Slattery came very close to a 3,000-meter national title two weeks later at the NCAA Indoor Championships as she finished in sixth place with a 9:22:88 time, earning All-American honors. She was named Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year. Injuries forced her to redshirt the outdoor season.

Cross Country: A three-time all-Big 12, all-NCAA Mountain Region and All-American, she has finished outside the top-10 only twice in 14 career races.  She is the only runner in the history of the women’s program to run in two NCAA title races, doing so as a freshman (where she finished a freshman program best eighth) and as a senior.  She is also just the second Buff to earn three All-American titles in the fall.

High School: As a sophomore she earned her first of three straight All-East Valley honors as well as All-East Valley Runner of the Year accolades. She ran in the ?97 Foot Locker National Championship race and was the state runner-up as a sophomore, a finish she would repeat as a junior before taking the individual title as a senior in 1999. Gorton was a member of the 1998 U.S. Junior National Cross Country Team and was an all-state performer as junior and senior, and Arizona State Runner-of-the-Year both seasons.

Academics: Slattery completed her undergraduate work in economics in fall ?03 and following her summer internship at NIKE, began her graduate work in education where she carries a 3.37 grade-point average. She has spent a pair of semesters on the Dean’s List, six semesters on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll and 2002 and ’03 as a first-team Academic All-Big 12 performer.

Personal: The former Sara Elizabeth Gorton was born on Oct. 2, 1981 in Phoenix. She is the daughter of Terry and Helen Gorton of Phoenix and the older sister of Lindsey, who attends Arizona. She married former CU All-American and US National Steeplechase Champion Steve Slattery in January of 2004. She is an active member of CU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
