Championship Saturday Awaits: Buffs Ready for 2025 NCAA Championships

BOULDER — The University of Colorado men's and women's cross country teams return to the Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Saturday for the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Columbia, Missouri. The CU women enter the weekend ranked eighteenth nationally, while the men sit seventh.

The national championship broadcast begins on ESPNU with the women's 6k at 8:20 a.m. MT, followed by the men's 10k at 9:20 a.m. MT. Additional coverage will stream live on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Colorado delivered a pair of fourth place team finishes at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships last Friday in Salt Lake City.

On the women side, sophomore Abbey Nechanicky led the Buffs with a 14th place finish in 20:45.1. For the men, sophomore Dominic Serem paced Colorado in 12th in 30:21.8.

Last Time at Gans Creek
Colorado turned in one of its strongest collective outings of the fall at the Gans Creek Classic on September 26.

The CU women, ranked No. 26 at the time, finished third with 166 points, placing behind No. 12 Florida and No. 8 Northern Arizona in a 32 team, eleven nationally ranked field. Jessie Secor led the Buffs with a 17th place finish in 19:41.8.

The 13th ranked men matched the women with a third place finish, scoring 126 points behind No. 1 Iowa State and No. 6 Virginia. Serem led the Buffs with a fifth place finish in 22:45.2.

The Field
32 men's and women's teams will compete for the national championship. A total of 403 athletes are entered between both races. 

The top 40 finishers in each race will earn USTFCCCA All-American honors.

MEN'S TEAM OUTLOOK
Colorado makes its 55th NCAA Championship appearance and extends its national-leading streak to 33 consecutive appearances. Serem has led CU throughout the season after placing ninth at the Mountain Regional Championships. Colorado finished fourth overall despite racing without key contributors Isaiah Givens and James Overberg.

The Buffs were among the most consistent programs in the nation this fall, placing:
• third at the Gans Creek Invitational
• second at the Nuttycombe Invitational
• third at the Big 12 Championship

After opening the season ranked thirteenth, Colorado surged to fifth after its performance at Gans Creek and maintained a top six national ranking entering championship weekend.

WOMEN'S TEAM OUTLOOK
The women make their thirty-fourth NCAA appearance, returning to nationals for the thirty-first time in the last thirty-three seasons. Juniors Jessie Secor and Abbey Nechanicky, along with freshman Mia Larochelle, have been the anchors throughout the campaign.

Colorado produced one of the biggest national jumps of the season with its third place finish at the Gans Creek Invitational, climbing sixteen spots in the USTFCCCA poll. The Buffs followed with a twelfth place finish at Nuttycombe Invitational and a fifth place showing at the Big 12 Championship.
