STOCKTON, Calif. ? Junior guard Whitney Law scored all four of her points in the final minute to deliver Colorado to a 45-42 triumph over Pacific on Saturday evening at the Alex Spanos Center.
Law's pull-up jumper in the lane with 49 seconds left broke a 39-39 tie to put Colorado (4-4) up by two. After Pacific's Jessie Menkens missed her attempt to tie, Law was fouled with 20 seconds remaining and hit both free throws to give the Buffaloes their largest lead of the game. Anna Nedovic would stretch the lead to six at 45-39 before the Tigers' Dana Zimmerman hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin.
Pacific (2-4) led by nine (34-25) with 11:13 remaining in regulation. Colorado went on a 13-1 run to claim its first lead since 1-0 at 38-35 with just 4:12 left in the period. Sophomore Jasmina Ilic, who missed her first eight shots, hit consecutive buckets to spark the CU rally.
Nedovic led Colorado with 10 points and nine rebounds. Veronica Johns-Richardson had eight points and four assists while Kara Richards had seven points and seven rebounds. The Buffaloes set a school record for the fewest points scored in win.
Pacific jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the game's first seven minutes. Colorado climbed back to within one at 15-14 by holding the Tigers scoreless for nearly seven minutes, but the Tigers went on a 6-0 run over the final 4:22 to take a 21-14 lead into the break.
Colorado's 14 first-half points tied a school-record low for that period matching the output against Missouri on March 6, 1984. The 35 combined first half points were the lowest in a CU game since the modern record keeping era began for the 1978-79 season.
Colorado will play its final non-conference road game at the Universiity of Washington on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 9 p.m. MST in Seattle. The game will be aired live to a national audience on Fox Sports Net.
