Kever Named CU Athlete of the Week

BOULDER-- Women's tennis freshman Lynzee Kever receives athlete of the week honors after going 2-0 this weekend, as the Buffs opened Big 12 play.

Saturday, Kever helped CU to their 5-2 win over Texas Tech, taking the No. 1 singles point and teaming up with Jenny Hanson winning No. 3 doubles. The freshman from Oklahoma City defeated Red Raider senior Irina Tereschenko 7-6, 1-6, 6-4. Kever and Hanson easily handled Texas Tech's Lakann Wagley and Hristiyana Gocheva 8-1.

Sunday, Kever contributed to the Buffs points against No. 13 Texas with a win at No.1 singles and received the No. 3 doubles match due to default. The Lady Buff upset ITA's 31st ranked player Petra Dizdar, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Going undefeated this weekend, Kever extended her success on the season. She is currently 4-1 at the No. 1 singles position, 5-1 overall, and 4-2 in doubles play, including 3-0 at No. 3 doubles. Kever has defeated two ITA ranked players, beating Dizdar this weekend and defeating Denver's 60th ranked Suzanna Maksovic 6-3, 6-2.

Randie Wirt (women's basketball) was also nominated for this week's award.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Randie Wirt, Senior, New Prague, Minn.

In an ugly game against Texas, Randie Wirt led Colorado scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Wirt stepped up when the Lady Buffs leading scorer fouled out with 7:59 remaining. The 6'2" center is the third leading scorer on the team and second in rebounding.
