Colorado’s Head Tennis Coach Anthony Pham’s Contract Extended Through 2029

July 01, 2026 | Tennis

Boulder, Colo. – The University of Colorado Boulder has extended the contract of head women's tennis coach Anthony Pham, Director of Athletics Fernando Lovo announced today.  The updated agreement keeps Pham in Boulder through the 2029 season.

The Buffaloes under Pham have been remarkably consistent in his five years at the helm, reaching double-digits in wins and postseason play three times. Colorado has also been regularly ranked in the International Tennis Association's (ITA) national rankings, appearing in the ITA's weekly poll 20 times in Pham's tenure, including 11 last season, the most times CU has appeared since 2010. Colorado has twice reached as high as 51st in the nation since 2024 under Pham, its highest ranking since 2021.

"Coach Pham has been a tremendous leader for our tennis student-athletes, whose teams are consistently resilient, tough, and incredibly prepared," said Lovo. "More than that, his program is consistently marked by quality individuals who represent CU Athletics exceptionally both on and off the court. I'm so excited that he'll continue to mentor and inspire our student-athletes for years to come."

"My family and I are truly grateful for the continued support and trust that Fernando Lovo, Rick George, Lindsay Lew, and everyone in our athletic department provide to our student athletes on a daily basis," said Pham. "Colorado is truly a special place because of the people who work here and having the opportunity to lead this program is an honor and a privilege.  I look forward to working  alongside all of our very talented staff to continue to elevate our program to where it belongs."

Last season, the Buffs battled through a spate of injuries to finish 75th in the nation in the ITA's year-end poll. Colorado ended the year with a record of 10-13, which included a massive upset over No. 28 Oklahoma State, the Buffs' highest-ranked victory since 2023, when Pham's Buffaloes beat No. 16 Washington.  Aya El Sayed earned Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors for her performance in the upset over Oklahoma State and finished the year Second-Team All-Big 12. As a result of Colorado's performance in 2026, Pham was named ITA's Rocky Mountain Region Coach of the Year.

In 2022-23, Colorado reached the NIT Semifinals and reached the NIT again the following year, marking CU's first back-to-back postseason appearances since 1997-98 and 1998-99.

Pham's teams also excel in the classroom. The team had a 3.44 cumulative grade point average in the Spring 2026 semester and has hit the 3.2 GPA benchmark for 15 straight semesters. The best fall (3.56 in 2024) and spring (3.76 in 2025) GPAs for the tennis team in CU history have come under Pham's leadership.
