June 04, 2026 | Tennis
HURGHADA, Egypt – In her first professional tournament following the 2026 season at Colorado, Aya El Sayed swept the field, winning both the singles and doubles brackets in a 15k tournament that spanned from May 18-24 in her home country of Egypt.
Last fall, El Sayed participated in different professional tournaments, getting her feet wet on the pro circuit. During that time, she took home her first tournament title in doubles. In the spring, she returned to Boulder to compete for the Buffs. During that time, she excelled, earning Second Team All-Big 12 honors.
After returning home to Egypt at the conclusion of the collegiate season, she made waves in her first tournament back. On the doubles side with partner Nada Fouad, the two received a first-round bye after being awarded the No. 1 seed. The duo won the next two matches to reach the final in straight sets.
In the final, the pair dropped the first set 7-6 (1) before winning the second 6-4 to force a 10-point tiebreaker for the match and the tournament. There, they controlled the tiebreaker, winning 10-2 and claiming the title.
On the singles side, El Sayed came in as the No. 8 seed in a field of 32 competitors. The first three rounds were won in straight sets, with El Sayed knocking out the No. 3 seed 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals against the No. 2 seed, El Sayed advanced after winning in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
In the final, El Sayed split the first two sets 6-3, 2-6 against sixth-seeded Ulyana Hrabavets. The third set came down to a tiebreaker, and El Sayed came out on top 7-6 (1) to win her first career professional singles title.
