Ritzenhein Named Co-Big 12 Athlete of the Week

BOULDER - University of Colorado sophomore Dathan Ritzenhein was named co-male Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the University of Oregon Pepsi Team Invitational the conference office announced on Monday.

Ritzenhein led CU's effort with a record-breaking performance in the 3,000 meters. The 2003 NCAA Cross Country champion, Ritzenhein won the 3,000 in 7:50.39 breaking the meet record by 24 seconds. His time is the best by an American collegian in 2004 and is sixth overall for U.S. collegians both indoor and outdoor. Ritzenhein currently tops the Big 12 Outdoor performance list in the 3,000 and is second in the world.

Ritzenhein shared the award with Baylor sprinter Jeremy Wariner.

CU will participate in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays, April 16-18, in Walnut, Calif.
