
WOMEN NETTERS DEFEAT IOWA STATE, 6-1

AMES, Iowa ? The University of Colorado women's tennis team won five of six singles slots in addition to securing the doubles point and cruised to its 10th win of the season taking a 6-1 win over host Iowa State, Friday afternoon.
CU improves to 6-4 in the Big 12 and 10-8 overall. The Cyclones remain winless in the conference (0-7) and fall to 5-9 overall. The Buffaloes have won three of its last four against the Cyclones and improved their dominance over Iowa State to 22-2 since 1981.
The Buffaloes opened the competition taking two of three doubles slots and a 1-0 lead heading into singles. Lynzee Kever and Kendra Strandemo at No. 2 and Jenny Hanson and Martina Sedivec at No. 3, cruised to wins, 8-1 and 8-5, respectively. Kever and Strandemo won their seventh match of the spring in 11 outings, while Hanson and Sedivec halted a personal eight-match losing streak.
It also marked the ninth time out of 10 CU wins that the Buffaloes secured the doubles point and went on the overall team victory.
In singles, positions No. 2 through No. 6 were victorious for the Buffs.
Jessica Vanderdys won her sixth out of her last seven and improved her No. 2 slot to 10-4 in the spring with a straight set win; Kendra Strandemo also won in straight sets at No. 3 and the fifth out of her last six matches (9-3 spring); and Martina Sedivec won in two sets at No. 4. Sedivec won her second of three matches since April 9.
Elsewhere, Morgan Sall was a straight set victor at No. 5, and Kristy Randono won in three sets taking a 6-0, 6-7(7), 1-0 (7) thriller at No. 6.
Colorado, which is tied for 71st in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, travels to Lincoln, Neb., to take on the Cornhuskers (13-6, 3-4) this Sunday, April 18. The Buffs have the last two in a row over Nebraska.
