September 04, 2004 | Volleyball
EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Colorado clinched a second place finish in the University of Oregon Volleyball Classic with a 30-27, 30-14, 30-19 exhibition win over Trinity Western University on Saturday evening at McArthur Court.
The Buffs won two of three matches over the weekend, recording a split yesterday. CU swept Cal State-Northridge in the tournament opener, but fell to the host Oregon Ducks Friday night. Oregon claimed the tournament title with a 3-0 record. Colorado remains 2-1 overall in 2004 as Saturday's match was considered an exhibition against the Lancaster, B.C., school.
Against Trinity Western, the Buffs spread the offense around as five players recorded at least eight kills. Junior's Nicole Carr and Maragda Santillana had nine while junior Allie Griffin and sophomore's Lara Bossow and Amber Nu'u each had eight. Santillana also led the Buffs in digs with 14 while Carr had 13
Griffin and sophomore Ashley Nu'u were named to the Oregon Classic All-Tournament Team.
