
COWGIRLS STOP COLORADO IN OT

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State scored the first six points of overtime and forced 28 turnovers to turn back Colorado 76-70 in Big 12 Conference action Saturday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Colorado drops to 8-8 overall, 1-4 in Big 12 play. OSU claims its first Big 12 win of the season moving to 6-10, 1-5.
OSU's Nina Stone had a game-high 31 points including five in overtime. Catherria Turner had 12 points off the bench including a 3-pointer to spark the Cowgirls' 6-0 run to open overtime.
Veronica Johns-Richardson and Jasmina Ilic each had 13 points for Colorado. Anna Nedovic had 10 points while Kara Richards had eight points and 10 rebounds.
The tightly-contested second half saw numerous runs by both teams.
Colorado was held with out a field goal and had four turnovers in the first 5:57 of the second half allowing Oklahoma State to go on a 14-2 run to begin the period and take a 43-36 lead. The Buffs responded with an 8-0 run, including a pair of buckets by Johns-Richardson to retake the lead at 44-43 with 11:57 left.
After OSU answered with five straight to take a 48-44 lead, the Buffs called a time out. Junior guard Whitney Law came out of the time out hitting consecutive buckets and freshman Yari Escalera hit a 3-pointer to cap off another CU seven-point run. An Escalera layup gave the Buffs a 57-53 lead with 3:22 left.
The trio of Escalera, Law and Ilic played key roles during CU's runs late in the half. After only five points from the trio in the first half, they combined for 16 straight points in the final 12 minutes of regulation.
The last laugh belonged to OSU guard Devry McDonald who scored seven of the Cowgirls' final 10 points in regulation. McDonald answred Escalera's layup with a 3-pointer to pull within one. McDonald then hit a pair of free throws to give the Cowgirls a 61-60 lead with 59 seconds left. Johns-Richardson put CU back up by two with a 3-point play with 40 seconds remaining, but McDonald nailed a leaning jumper on the block with 16 seconds left to tie the game at 63. CU's Jackie McFarland missed a tough shot in traffic with with eight seconds left and OSU couldn't get a shot off before time expired.
