BOULDER- Junior forward Glean Eddy earned CU Athlete of the Week honors after recording his first career double-double with a team-high 12 points and 11 rebounds to help lead Colorado to a 54-52 overtime victory against Iowa State; it was the Buffs first win in Ames, Iowa since 1991.

 

The Nashville, Tenn. native also scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds in CU's loss to Baylor earlier in the week.  Eddy's 12 points at Iowa State not only helped the Buffs to their first Big 12 victory of the season, but it was also the first time he had led the team in scoring.

 

Eddy and the rest of the Buffaloes will be in action this Sunday (Jan. 30) when they host No. 9 Oklahoma State (2 p.m. MST, ESPN Regional).

 

Others nominated for this week's award were George Pincock (Men's Indoor Track and Field), Amberly Casey (Women's Indoor Track and Field), Rachel Roosevelt (Women's Skiing), Jackie McFarland (Women's Basketball), Gleisy Torres Torres (Women's Tennis), and Jan Zalezny (Men's Tennis).

 

Men's Indoor Track and Field: George Pincock, Sophomore, Carson City, Nev.

The sophomore won his preliminary heat in the men's 200, and went into the finals of both the 200 and 400 meter dashes all of which where at the Air Force Open. With the second fastest qualifying times in both events, he went on to win the 200 in a season best and personal record 21.77 and followed that with a fourth-place finish in the 400.  In addition, Pincock anchored the men's mile relay team, which finished eighth.  He scored 17 of the Buffs' 56 team points.

Women's Indoor Track and Field: Amberly Casey, Sophomore, Boulder, Colo.

The sophomore scored 14 of the Buffs' 38 points at the Air Force Open when she finished second in the long jump with a PR of 19-0.50 and third in the triple jump with a PR of 39-5.25.

 

Women's Skiing: Rachel Roosevelt, Freshman, Storrs, Conn.

The freshman finished 19th overall in Friday's slalom and 13th in Saturday's giant slalom at the Winter World University Games in Innsbruck, Austria, the third best finish by an American in the race.

 

Women's Basketball: Jackie McFarland, Freshman, Derby, Kansas

The freshman recorded her third career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds as Colorado beat Missouri, 56-51, to claim its first Big 12 Conference victory of the season. McFarland hit 8-of-12 from the field and
tied her career high in rebounds. She scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half as CU outscored the Tigers 36-23 in the period.

 

Women's Tennis: Gleisy Torres Torres, Freshman, Barquisimeto, Venezuela

The freshman won her first collegiate dual singles match, defeating her Air Force opponent in straight sets helping Colorado open the spring with a 5-2 victory against the Fighting Falcons. It was a Torres Torres' team leading
seventh victory for the season. The Buffaloes, who are ranked No. 70 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll won their seventh straight meeting against Air Force. The Barquisimeto, Venezuela
native also helped her team earn the doubles point teaming with Allison Quinn at No. 3 doubles.


Men's Tennis: Jan Zalezny, Freshman, Prague, Czech Republic

The freshman won his first collegiate spring dual match taking a straight-set win over his New Mexico opponent helping the No. 74th nationally-ranked Buffaloes upset No. 33 New Mexico, 4-0, in the 2005 Mountain Region Indoor
Tennis Tournament semifinal.  Zelezny, a native of the Czech Republic, went 1-1 on the day and for the season won his seventh singles match in 13 outings. As a team, the Buffs went 1-1 falling to No. 42 Boise State in the finals.
