Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller
On Jasmina Ilic's shoulder injury
“I think she will be fine, she is pretty tough. I think she is a fighter. She is the type of person who wants to be on the floor. There is no doubt we need her to win just as we need everybody to win. I have to utmost confidence with our trainers that they will do everything they can to get her back as quick as possible.”
On improvements from first game
“Rebounding. We improved in a lot of areas. Tonight we stepped on the floor with the idea that we were going to compete on every possession. From last week to this week we improved on rebounding. We emphasized the point to them all week. We also shot the ball better and executed better. There were times I thought we looked great and times I wondered what was going on. We turned the ball over too much; we made poor decisions against their zone.”
On post play
“I've been impressed with the post player's versatility. Once the chemistry is there we hope to see improvement and consistency.”
On the slow start
“I don't know what to think of it. We're still trying to get a cohesive five that will get us a good start. I think it's a combination of two things: it's a little bit of inexperience and just trying to get the right rotation.”
Colorado Players
Senior Guard Whitney Law
On play with Kara Richards
“I think we defiantly had a size advantage. I always know that if I give Kara the ball that she will score. It's hard to not give her the ball when she's down low.”
On steals and turnovers
“We didn't handle the zone too well and we threw the ball out of bounds a lot. That's something we just need to work on.”
On Regis guard Diana Lopez
“She played aggressively and strong. She came back after three fouls in the first half and played well. I think she will do a lot of good things for them in the future.”
Junior Forward Jasmina Ilic
On the shoulder injury
“Yes, it's the same shoulder as before. I thought I had it under control but it popped out. I had some problems with it last year in practice and in games.”
On injury play
“I went up for a rebound and it was kind of behind, so I jumped higher and someone hit me in the back and I felt it pop out.”
Sophomore center Kara Richards
On getting on track on offense
“I'm not really satisfied yet. My mind keeps on going back to that air-ball free throw. That's something we need to work on; or I need to work on.”
General
“We are an athletic team and we play really hard. In looking toward our next game we need to execute a better offense. Right now we are a one woman machine and we need to score more. We also need to do a better job of keeping the fouls down. We had too many tonight and it hurt us.” “I was very pleased with Viall and Rademacher in the second half. They stepped up their game and came out and got some big points for us.” On Defense “Our defense tonight was great except we had trouble closing out Jasmina Ilic. We came out with a strong defense from the start and continued with a strong defense after switching to player-to-player.”
