Colorado-Cal State-Fullerton Quotes
November 18, 2005 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller
General
“Obviously it is a great start for this group it's always nice to get a win and I'm ecstatic to get to 1-0. I'm excited about the whole team as well as the individual performances. Whitney Law had a great game with 15 assists and really putting the ball on people's hands. The team is happy, there were obviously issues coming in with Kara Richards out we made the proper adjustments and the staff was confident we could get a rotation that would be successful. Tonight we made really good decisions, it was a high possession game, so 18 turnovers is not that bad.
On Coming Into the First Game
“I thought the biggest obstacle was the confidence issue, it took a little bit of regaining confidence that we got off the floor with team meetings.”
On Exceeding Expectations
“It was so much better than I thought, there were some concerns with Kara (Richards) being out, but we knew we could replace the points, but we didn't know what kind of look we would have doing it.”
On Jackie McFarland
“Jackie is just finesse on the block, how do you guard her when she can do it all. She can really play in there.”
On Caley Dow
“She was ecstatic to be on the floor, I couldn't get her to stop smiling. She gave a good effort in the minutes she got it comes back to the confidence issue and having confidence of the team and the staff in her.”
On High Octane Offense
“I saw them play like this three or four times early on, but I haven't seen it lately, since the two exhibition games while we sere trying to find ourselves.”
On Improvements For Next Game
“I want to defend better. There were some glaring mistakes. We talked about containing, so we were on our heels a lot, and they hit shots when we were playing too far off of them.”
Colorado Players
Sophomore Forward Jackie McFarland
ON WHITNEY LAW ? “Whit had a great game. She was playing out of her mind, drawing defenders. When she plays like that, you just have to be ready for a rebound or a pass.”
ON FAST START ? “I think it helped out a lot. Last year, we were usually behind at the start. But getting out there and getting the first two shots was big.”
ON HER 3 POINTER ? “I've been working on it. I didn't think they really looked that good, but it is definitely something I have been working on in practice. “
Junior Forward Jasmina Ilic
ON GETTING 100 POINTS ? “I wanted it really bad. I was ready for the ball as soon as I got fouled. I was at the free throw line and everybody was staring at me. I was like, ?Hi.' We got a hundred points.”
Senior Guard Whitney Law
ON PASSING GAME ? “It just kind of developed over the years. Jackie (McFarland)'s finishing shot, Jasmina's finishing shots, everyone is finishing. When they are finishing it makes me look good.”
ON SUPRISING START ? “I wasn't surprised at all. We didn't let ourselves get into a funk. I think we were waiting for a game like this.”
Cal State-Fullerton Head Coach Dr. Maryalyce Jeremiah
General
“The one thing that I'm really proud of is that we played hard until the end. They played a two-dimensional game but if it helps you win, it really doesn't matter. Underwood, our leading scorer hardly played (due to an injury). Several of us are hurt and we knew that was going to keep us from playing the way we wanted to play. Whether it would have changed the outcome of the game I don't know. We probably lost this game in the first 10 minutes when we got so far behind.”
On Play of Colorado
“They are a better team than we are. I think we are athletic and strong but we don't have any big players inside and I think that is why they out-rebounded us terribly.”
On Colorado's Size Advantage
“We knew that was going to be the difference. McFarland, she can should outside and then can come inside and vice-versa. If our players were all healthy, McFarland might not have gotten 34 points but I think they would have still won the game. That's not going to change the outcome of the game.”
