Colorado-Wyoming Quotes
November 21, 2005 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller
“ I don't know if you were watching the same game, because there were two different teams from Friday's game to tonight. Give credit to Wyoming, because they had a game plan that was very successful. Just by looking at a stat sheet and you know where our points are going to come from. They definitely took that away from us tonight.”
On Jackie McFarland
“I thought Jackie was phenomenal. That was in the first half, and then we stopped giving her the ball.”
On tying the game in the first half
“I thought we pressed too hard most of the game, but there was about a ten minute stretch where we played well, and executed like we can.”
On the second half
“We couldn't come up with stops to get anything going. Anytime Jackie caught the ball there were immediately three people on her, and it was very difficult to find the open player. We weren't running the offense efficiently to get a good look; we were so static with the ball.”
Colorado Players
Junior Forward Jasmina Ilic
ON HER PERFORMANCE ? “I shot 0-for-13. I need to find more ways to help the team, not just score. I need to go to the boards more, I had only three boards and three turnovers. I didn't help our team enough today to help win and I take the blame for that.”
HER PLAY EARLY ON ? “In the beginning I had a lot of touches, got fouled, and that started bugging me. I tried to shake it off but it didn't work. It was not a good night.”
Sophomore Guard Yari Escalera
ON HER PERFORMANCE ? “It was alright. I didn't have any assists and four turnovers. I need to find a way to get more people open. I'm not happy especially since we lost the game.”
ON GETTING TAKEN OUT OF THE GAME ? “Coach McConnell-Miller took me out of the game as I was not playing any help defense. I tried to get my mind on the court, and I came back in and did my best to help the team.”
Sophomore Forward Jackie McFarland
ON HER PLAY ? “I think of myself as a consistent player. I go hard to the boards. I want to be inside getting the points my team needs. I'm still in there and I'm going to crash the boards every night. My shots were falling while others weren't. It ended up being a good night for me, but not for the team.”
ON RIVALRY WITH WYOMING ? “It's frustrating because it's almost like an in-state rivalry. They played better than us tonight, they out-hustled us.”
Wyoming Head Coach Joe Legerski
General
“It was an extremely intense, hard fought game. We knew we were up for a battle with Colorado, and we are just happy that we went out there and fought so hard.”
On Jackie McFarland
“We look at McFarland, and you look at how many players you want to commit to her. You look at what you can and can not give up.”
On Offense
“The number of girls stepping up offensively was a huge factor. When you have three players in double digits, and two of them are sophomores. That is huge.”
On game plan for Jasmina Ilic
“You have to know that she can make shots from six feet beyond the three point line, so we stuck Hannah Zavecz on her and tried to prevent her from getting on a roll."
On win in Boulder
“It's just one game, we have a lot of basketball in front of us. It's a good win but we're on the court tomorrow getting ready for Kansas State. “
