Colorado-Mines Quotes
November 03, 2005 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller
General
“Well I'm glad that's over. I think everyone on this team had higher expectations as far as a higher performance in the game. I contribute that to beating on each other in practice and not having the depth to form chemistry. I did see several good things and several bad things. I thought it was good that we finished the first half on a 12-0 run and that we came out in the second half with a lot more intensity. Tonight it was surprising in that we did not play like we have prepared over the last two weeks. All in all we have a long way to go.”
On First Game at Colorado
“I felt very comfortable with this team. It was no different than in the past. I feel I know the players and I feel like they have really embraced this offense and this coaching staff. It was exciting to be on the floor out here along with this team.”
On Unbalanced Scoring
“I'm quite surprised by it. I anticipated that Jasmina (Ilic) would be getting that many touches but it surprised me that we didn't establish a better presence inside. We have to know that in the near future that Kara (Richards) and Jackie (McFarland) have to establish themselves as a presence.”
Colorado Players
Jr. Forward Jasmina Ilic
On the Flow of the Game
“I got a lot of touches and I have to make the best of them. I took 20 shots, and that is a lot.”
On Colorado's Preformance
“We finally got up against somebody besides ourselves. We didn't underestimate them (Colorado Mines). They are a hustle team and we knew that coming in. We picked it up in the second half. We played better defense and we were more composed.”
So. Forward Jackie McFarland
On Mines' Offensive Rebounding
“It was frustrating, the ball can bounce your way and you can pick it up at the three point line. We have to hustle more on the boards and keep the ball out of the other team's hands”
Colorado School of Mines Head Coach Paula Krueger
ON THE PLAY OF COLORADO
“First of all, I congratulate Coach McConnell-Miller and her squad. I think she has got things going in the right direction and I thought her team played extremely hard. I'm sure she was a little disappointed her team didn't put more points on the board.”
ON THE PLAY OF MINES
“I thought defensively and rebounding wise we played well. But, we are not in basketball shape and that's something I need to get my team ready for. But, that is no reflection on my kids whatsoever.”
ON JASMINA ILIC
“She's going to create match-up problems in the Big 12 no matter who they're playing. She has size and the ability to shoot as well as her ability to take you off of the dribble. She's a solid player. She can get you off the low block, at the 3-point line, or off the dribble. She's an amazing player.”
