WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COMES UP SHORT AGAINST CYCLONES

February 02, 2005 | Women's Basketball

AMES, Iowa (AP) - Megan Ronhovde made all six of her 3-point shots in scoring a career-high 24 points, and Anne O'Neil missed a triple-double by one rebound for No. 19 Iowa State in a 103-76 victory Wednesday night over Colorado.

O'Neil had 24 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds when she left the game with 4:36 remaining. She did not return, and the Cyclones (17-2, 7-1 Big 12) cruised to the finish, scoring the most points in a conference game since a 112-79 victory over Baylor on Feb. 26, 2000.

Colorado (8-11, 1-7) trailed just 53-45 with 17:30 remaining, but Iowa State went on a 26-5 surge to break it open and eventually led by as many as 31 points. Ronhovde hit two 3-pointers during the big burst, while O'Neil, Mary Fox and Lyndsey Medders made one each.

Jasmina Ilic went 6-for-12 from 3-point range and led Colorado (8-11, 1-7) with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Kara Richards added 19 points for the Buffaloes, who shot 36 percent in the first half and 39.7 percent for the game.

Lisa Kriener added a season-high 14 points for Iowa State, Katie Robinette scored 13 and Fox 11. The Cyclones finished 15-for-28 on 3-pointers and shot 57.4 percent overall.

Ronhovde made her first eight shots and her only miss was a putback attempt from 2 feet. Things went so well for the 6-foot-1 sophomore that even when it appeared she would look bad, she still scored.

On a fast break during Iowa State's decisive run, Ronhovde was running down the floor and didn't see the ball coming her way. But it bounced right in front of her, she grabbed it and continued in for a layup.

The Buffs will travel to College Station, Texas to face Texas A&M on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time.
