Colorado Loses Heart-Breaker, 58-55, To Missouri

February 09, 2005 | Women's Basketball

BOULDER  ?  Colorado's Whitney Law had a pair of career-highs and a second career double-double but Missouri's LaToya Bond stole the show as the junior guard hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Buffaloes 58-55, Wednesday night at the Coors Events Center.

On the final play of the game the Tigers had Bond matched up one-on-one with Colorado's Veronica Johns-Richardson.  Johns-Richardson knocked the ball away, but Bond recovered it and while falling backwards, took the shot from 20 feet.  The buzzer went off as the ball was in the air and Missouri's bench erupted as the Tigers ended an eight-game skid..

With two and a half minutes remaining the Tigers were up by six but Colorado fought back. Johns-Richardson, who had 11 points, scored on a running layup with 13 seconds left to tie the game at 55.

Law tied a career high with 14 points and grabbed a personal-best 12 rebounds.  Junior center Tami Garnett scored a career-high nine points and had six rebounds for Colorado (8-13, 1-9 Big 12). The Buffaloes, who have lost six straight, hit just 5-of-14 from the foul line, 3-of-9 in the second half.

Bond and Tiffany Brooks both scored 15 points for Missouri (8-13, 2-8 Big 12) and EeTisha Riddle recorded a double-double, 12 points and 10 boards.

Colorado led for the majority of the game but the Tigers took the lead for the first time with just over six minutes remaining.  At halftime the Buffs were up 34-25.

Colorado will now travel to Kansas to take on the Jayhawks on Saturday Feb. 13 at 12 p.m. MST in Lawrence, Kan.
