March 15, 2005 | General, Track and Field
BOULDER - Senior standout distance runner Renee Metivier earned CU Athlete of the Week honors after she captured a first-place victory in the 3000-meter run at the NCAA Indoor National Championships this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Metivier clocked a time of 9:22.81 in her last race of the 2005 indoor season to help earn her sixth CU Athlete of the Week accolade this year and her third since February.
Â
After finishing sixth in the 5000-meter run, the Highland Village, Texas native responded by defeating 15 dual event (3,000-m and 5,000-m) competitors in the 3k. She captured her spot in the 3000-meter NCAA Championships competition while at the University of Washington Invite in mid-February where she took first with a personal best and automatic qualifying time of 9:14.23.Â
                      Â
Metivier now has been the anchor of CU's 2004 National Champion women's cross country team with her runner-up finish last October, a three-time cross country All-American and a 2004 Big 12 Indoor mile champion. Including her early career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Colorado, she's now racked up seven track All-American statuses (five indoor, two outdoor).

In the Buffs' 64-62 near upset of No. 18 Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament, the true freshman led Colorado with a career-high 19 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field (4-of-6 from beyond the arc), and going 3-for-5 from the charity stripe. The Puerto Rico native also contributed three rebounds, three steals and five assists, while logging 40 minutes of playing time.
