Bolf Runs Away With CU Athlete of the Week
March 29, 2005 | General, Track and Field
BOULDER - Junior distance runner Christine Bolf earned CU Athlete of the Week honors after she posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 34:00.94 in the 10,000 meter run, her first of the outdoor season.
The Los Angeles, California (Notre Dame Academy) native ran a personal best by nearly 13 seconds to finish 18th in her section, and 18th overall, at the Stanford Invitational. In addition, her time leads the Big 12 Conference best list in the early season and is seventh on the CU all-time outdoor 10k chart.
In addition Chad Tsuda earned CU Athlete of the Week honors for the week of March 22 after the junior won his fourth consecutive match at No. 6 singles, taking a 6-1, 6-1 winner over his New Mexico opponent. The victory aided Colorado in defeating the Lobos for the second time this season, 5-2. The win was Tsuda's 12th match win of the year and his seventh triumph in outings of the spring. Tsuda edged out Liza Pascuito (women's cross country) and Lynzee Kever (women's tennis) for the honor.
Others nominated for this week's award were Edward McGlasson (men's golf), Hannah Hoch (women's golf), and Jon Severy (men's track and field).
Men's Golf: Edward McGlasson, Junior, Orange, Calif.
The junior tied for third in CU's own CU-Stevinson Ranch Invitational in Stevinson, Calif., turning in a 1-under par 70-69-76--215 scorecard. It was the best finish of his college career and it helped CU tie for fifth in the meet. Only five players out of 81 in the field managed to better par for the meet, which endured wet and windy conditions over the two days.
Women's Golf: Hannah Hoch, Sophomore, Turlock, Calif.
The sophomore finished just six strokes shy of her third win this season, finishing seventh at CU's own Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson. Hoch carded a career-low 215 over the 54-hole Mountain View Golf Course layout for her sixth top-10 finish of the season, and ninth of her career, in part to a season low final round 3-under 69 to move up from 13th after Saturday's second round to seventh.
Men's Track and Field: Jon Severy, Senior, Aspen, Colo.
The senior's career setting season continued in the men's 10,000-m, as he bested his personal record by 63.34 seconds running at the Stanford Invitational. Running an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 29:15.14, he finished sixth in the second section. His early season effort in the event leads all Big 12 runners
