Bolf Earns CU Athlete of the Week Honors

BOULDER-- Christine Bolf this past weekend earned University of Colorado Athlete of the Week honors ran a 30 second personal record, NCAA Midwest Region qualifying, league and region leading 15 :57.13 effort in the women's 5,000-m run at the Cardinal Invitational held in Stanford, Calif.Â

The Los Angeles, Calif. (Notre Dame Academy) native was the second fastest collegian in the race, fifth overall, and is also fifth in the nation with her mark this season and eighth all-time at CU. This is Bolf's second CU Athlete of the week this year, and second of the track and field season.
Veera Nurmi (women's tennis),men's track and field), Brent Vaughn (men's track and field), and Edward McGlasson (men's golf) were also nominated for this week's honor.

Women's Tennis: Veera Nurmi, Freshman, Lahti, Finland
The freshman won a pair of clinching singles matches helping the CU women's tennis team advance to a semifinal placing at the Big 12 Tennis Championships in Austin, Texas. In the No. 6 seed, CU defeated Kansas, 4-2 in the opening round behind Nurmi's come-from-behind victory at No. 4 (3-6, 6-4, 6-0). She followed that with a straight-set winner (6-2, 6-2) at the same slot a day later helping the Buffaloes upset No. 3 seed and No. 31 nationally ranked Nebraska, 4-2 in the conference quarterfinals. Nurmi won a team-best 20 victories and was an impressive 12-6 at the No. 4 singles slot during her initial season with the Buffaloes.
