MBB Closes Non-Conference Season With 116-52 Win Over Savannah State

January 03, 2006 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER (AP) - Seldom used Glenn Eddy scored 17 points and seven players reached double figures as Colorado won its ninth straight by defeating undermanned Savannah State 116-52 Tuesday night.

Julius Ashby added 16 points for Colorado (10-1), off to its best start since 1941-42 when it began 14-0. The Buffaloes posted the most lopsided victory in school history and their longest winning streak since 1961-62 when they won 12 in a row.

Jayson Randolph led Savannah State (1-15) with 27 points. Michael Bennett had 10 points for the Tigers, losers of 30 of 31 games over two seasons.

Savannah State turned the ball over on its first three possessions, didn't attempt a shot until a minute and 20 seconds into the game and didn't connect on a shot until Antoine Bronner's rebound basket 20 seconds later. By then, Jayson Obazuaye had six of his 15 points and Colorado led 12-2.

The Tigers got consecutive baskets only once in the first half, both by Chris Linton to make it 22-6. Andy Osborn had nine points on three, 3-pointers and Colorado outscored the Tigers 45-10 over the remaining 14:26 of the half to take a 67-16 lead into intermission.

It didn't get any better in the second half. The Buffaloes lead reached 79-16 on a 3-pointer and layup by Obazuaye. Eddy's jumper and a 3-pointer by Dominique Coleman increased Colorado's lead to 99-28 with 9:35 remaining.
