MBB Closes Exhibition Season With Win Over Regis, 73-37

November 07, 2006 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER ? Junior Richard Roby scored 15 points leading four players in double figures pacing the University of Colorado men's basketball team to a 73-37 win over Regis University Tuesday night at the Coors Events Center.

With the victory CU successfully kept their win streak alive during the exhibition season winning their 19th consecutive game and improving to 24-1 (.960) under head coach Ricardo Patton. In its history, CU is 44-6 (.880) during the exhibition season.

This is the fourth straight year that CU and Regis have played in the exhibition season (CU winning all four). When it counts the Buffaloes have won all four match ups in the regular season dating back to 1983.

The game started slow for the Buffaloes scoring only five points through the first eight minutes of the game. After Regis took a surprising 9-3 advantage, CU rallied back to take 10-9 lead from a 3-pointer by Kal Bay. With the score 16-16 at 5:56, CU finally pulled away before intermission with a 6-0 run with four points by Marcus King-Stockton (dunk and jumper) and a 22-16 halftime lead.

The second half started as many thought the first half would begin as the Buffs scored the first eight points racing out to a 30-16 lead. Regis went scoreless for the first 3:49 of the half.

From there the Buffs kept the game in control jumping out a double-digit leads on a number of occasions, their biggest was 23 points, holding a commanding 54-31 lead with seven minutes to play behind back-to-back 3-pointers from Roby and Bay.

Joining Roby in double-digits for Colorado was fellow junior Dominique Coleman who recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds to go along with his 10 points.  Coleman was just three assists shy of a triple-double, finishing with seven.  Freshman Xavier Silas and junior Marcus King-Stockton added 12 and 10 points, respectively, and sophomore Jermyl Jackson-Wilson grabbed 10 boards.

CU dominated in the paint recording eight blocked shots and out-rebounding the Rangers, 44-31.

Regis was led by Brandon Butler who was the lone Ranger in double-digits with team-high 10 points and eight rebounds.

Both the CU men and women's teams open the regular season on Nov. 10 with a doubleheader at the CECC. The women play the University of San Francisco Dons (6 p.m.) and the men host in-state rival the University of Denver Pioneers (8:30 p.m.).  Both games will be aired on Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain.
