Zelezny and Casey Spring into CU Athletes of the Week Honors

BOULDER-- Junior men's tennis player Jan Zelezny and junior track and field jumper Amberly Casey were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of March 14-20. This is Zelezny's second (Sept. 27) and Casey's first CU Athlete of the Week honor of the year.
Zelezny, a Prague, Czech Republic native, won all three of his singles matches at the 18-team Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic, helping Colorado to a 1-2 record. Zelezny, playing the No. 4 singles slot, is the No. 111 nationally-ranked singles player, and helped the Buffaloes defeat No. 44 Mississippi State, 4-2. He has won four straight matches, and stands at 5-1 in conference play and 7-2 for the spring.
Casey, a Boulder, Colo. (Boulder) native, took first place in the long and triple jumps at the Potts Invitational on Saturday. She recorded a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 39-4.50 and notched a jump of 19-8.25 in the long jump. It is the second consecutive year she has won the long jump at the Potts Invitational.

Men's Track and Field: George Pincock, Junior, Carson City, Nev.
Pincock took first in the men's 200-meter dash, in a personal best time of 21.13 seconds. Pincock was also part of the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams for CU that took first at the Potts Invite.
Women's Tennis: Veera Nurmi, Sophomore, Lahti, Finland
Nurmi won her lone singles match of the week defeating Erika Josbena 6-1, 6-0 of Missouri at No. 4 singles, clinching the first singles point of the day for the Buffaloes (9-5). Nurmi has won seven straight matches and is 5-1 at No. 4 singles in conference play. Furthermore, She has won 10 of 11 singles matches this spring. Nurmi is the team leader in victories with 11 and already has 20 wins equaling her win total during her freshman season.
