Women's Golf Leads Heather Farr Memorial
October 01, 2007 | Women's Golf
BOULDER ? The University of Colorado women's golf team shot a tournament low 287 in the second round to wrap up the first day of play tied for first place with Oklahoma.
Colorado and Oklahoma are tied with a final score of 588. They are followed by Idaho (590) and Colorado State (592) to round up the top-four.
The Buffs started off slow in the first round, finishing with a team total of 301, but bounced back and improved by 14 strokes, with a second round total of 287.
"This morning was somewhat frustrating," said head coach Anne Kelly. "The team played well but we missed a lot of putts and that is still an area that we can improve on. This afternoon I was really proud of the team and the strong effort they put forth."
Sophomore Dominique Pytlewski leads individual side by two strokes with a 141. Pytlewski opened the tournament with a one-under 71. She followed that up with a career-best 70 in the second round to finish three-under on the day. This marks the first time in Pytlewski's career that she has ever posted back-to-back sub-par rounds and she is in the hunt for her first ever tournament win.
"I think every put that I hit had a chance to go in," said Pytlewski. "Overall I'm happy with how I played but I am still working on some things. I had some good practice swings today and I'm getting closer to where I want to be."
"Domi was just solid all day," said Kelly. "She had a very good week of preparation and it's nice to see it pay off for her."
Pytlewski is followed by sophomore Julie Kim, who is tied for second place with two other players with a one-under total of 143. Kim shot a one-over 73 in the first round but rebounded in the second round to shoot a tournament low 69.
Senior Lindsay Senger is tied for 22nd place at five-over par (149). Senger shot a 73 in her second round, besting her first round score by three strokes.
"Everyone was disappointed with how we did this morning," said Pytlewski. "I know we struggled and you could see that we weren't having a good day. Everyone put it on themselves to have a better second round and it was great that we were able to do it at the same time."
Junior Cierra Ko was 11-over par (155) with a career-best second round score of 75, which left her tied for 53rd. Freshman Stephanie Simich rounded out the Colorado scorecard, shooting a total score of 165.
?We still have a lot of golf to play, but I'm quite excited about our chances tomorrow," said Kelly.
Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the final round in a shotgun start. Live stats are available at http://www.golfhousecolorado.org/cu.
