Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller
On Rebounding From Friday's Loss
“I think that last night our look was a result of our shots not going down, and we were also struggling on the defensive end. But they were excited about this game and the tournament, and they went into this game with good energy. There is no doubt in my mind that we could shoot the ball the way we did last night and win the game tonight. We knew that things were going to change and I thought that they responded well from a very tough loss last night.”
On Slow Start
“That was a result of the mix up in the line up I had in there. When I finally settled on the lineup that played the most of the game, that's when we I think that we got into the game.”
On Starting Aija Putnina
“I am going to go back and look at what she did when she started last year, but I remember she had three double-doubles in row when she started, so I came into this game knowing what Kara gave us because she started the first three games, but I don't know what Aija is going to do when she starts. I felt like I needed to give her a look. She rebounds the ball well, and gives us a little quicker lineup.”
Colorado Players
GENERAL-“We talked yesterday about playing more as a team both defensively and offensively. I think that we did a better job of that today.”
ON RECOVERING FROM FRIDAY'S LOST-“I think that we were a little on nerves last night. We did not know how we were going to react to new players in the lineup. It took a little while, but we realized that we are going to be fine.”
ON AIJA PUTNINA-“Starting the game really helped out Aija [Putnina], because it allowed her to bemore aggressive, and it definitely looked like she had a different mindset today than she did yesterday.”
ON STARTING-“Being in the starting lineup gave me a lot of confidence. I know that coach is counting on me and wants me to do a good job out there.”
Rice Head Coach Greg Williams
General
“We got off to a good start and then we stopped executing, so give CU credit there. Then they started asserting themselves inside and we couldn't stop them. They are very physical in the paint and we had three post players foul out.”
On CU's Offensive Production
“They were 13-19 inside the 3-point line, and most of those were deep in the paint. And not only did they go inside, but we fouled them a lot of times. We are a team that needs to go to the line a lot. Even though we were nine for nine from the line, they shot 13 free throws. They were too big and physical inside. Susie Powers hit three threes and those things are going to happen; she had a nice game.
On Rice
“We had some mental breakdowns defensively and they capitalized and took advantage of them. You can't make those types of mistakes at this level, because teams make you pay for them.”
