
Buffaloes Overcome Kansas 5-2

LAWRENCE, Kan. ? The University of Colorado tennis team earned its second Big 12 win of the weekend in Kansas, defeating the Jayhawks 5-2 Sunday, April 15, at the Robinson courts in Lawrence.
The 30th-ranked Buffaloes improved to 14-6, 7-2 in the Big 12, while the Jayhawks fell to 4-14, 2-7 in the conference. It was the fourth straight win of the season for CU.
The Buffs came out ready to play, starting off the competition by sweeping all three doubles matches. In the No. 1 slot, Camila Belassi and Gleisy Torres Torres defeated Elizayete Avdeeva and Edina Horvath 8-1. The duo successfully broke their four match losing streak, nearly shutting out the competition.
The pair of Monica Milewski and Franziska Jendrian took down Lauren Hommell and Kunigunda Dorn, also by a score of 8-1, in the No. 2 position, clinching the doubles point and improving their record to 13-6 this spring. The No. 3 doubles team of Melisa Esposito and Martina Sedivec downed Stephanie Smith and Yuliana Svistun, 8-3. The duo has an impressive 11-2 record on the season.
The Buffs' momentum continued into singles play, winning four of their six match-ups. In the No. 1 position, No. 42 ranked Milewski swept Elizaveta Avdeeva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Milewski, CU's only nationally ranked player, has won four consecutive matches and improved her record to 15-5.
After KU took the second singles point, Veera Nurmi responded with a win against Kunigunda Dorn, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, in the No. 3 singles slot. Nurmi bounced back to break her four-match losing streak and improved her record to 9-8.
With one point to go for a Buffaloes victory, Jendrian clinched the match, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 4 singles position. Jendrian holds a 13-7 record this season.
The fifth point for CU was earned by Esposito in the 6th singles slot, defeating Stephanie Smith, 6-0, 2-0. Esposito has won 10 of her past 12 matches and polished her record to 13-3.
The Buffaloes will complete their regular season schedule at home, next facing head coach Nicole Kenneally's alma mater Oklahoma Sooners, Saturday, April 21, at the South Campus Courts in
