Colorado Shuts Out Miami 42-0

September 22, 2007 | Football

BOULDER -Cody Hawkins threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Colorado Buffaloes broke a two-game skid in a 42-0 win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.

Hawkins finished 19-of-30 for 275 yards as the Buffaloes racked up 634 yards of total offense.

It was the first time the RedHawks have been shut out since a 21-0 loss at Ball State on Nov. 6, 1993.

Hugh Charles rushed for 123 yards, his first 100-yard game since Oct. 14, 2006, against Texas Tech. He also had a 17-yard touchdown.

Brian Lockridge finished with 90 yards rushing, including a 43-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Demetrius Sumler had 91 yards as the Buffaloes rediscovered their ground game. Colorado had 359 yards rushing.

The week before against Florida State, Colorado (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) was held to minus-27 yards rushing on 25 carries.

The Colorado defense held Miami (1-3, 0-1 MAC) to just 139 yards of total offense and six first downs. The RedHawks never drove deeper than the Colorado 38-yard line.

Daniel Raudabaugh completed 11 of 32 passes for 95 yards in his first start of the season. He had come off the bench the past two games to relieve Mike Kokal, who has a thumb injury.

Miami was without tailbacks Brandon Murphy and Andre Bratton, who both suffered knee injuries earlier this season. Austin Sykes was held in check, gaining 29 yards on nine carries.

Hawkins threw two first-half touchdowns and ran for another, and Sumler added a 1-yard touchdown run as the Buffaloes built up a 28-0 halftime lead.

Both of Hawkins' touchdown passes went to tight ends, a 1-yard pass to Tyson DeVree on a fourth-down play and a 3-yard pass to Patrick Devenny, the first catch of his career.
