Volleyball Hosts Texas Tech and Texas

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado volleyball team will host Texas Tech and No. 3 Texas this week at the Coors Events Center.

 

The Buffs will host Texas Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. The Buff Club will host a barbeque at the northwest entrance of the CECC. The first 500 fans will receive a free hotdog and drink. An autograph session will follow the match.

 

CU will host the Longhorns on Saturday, Oct. 11. Members of SAAC will be collecting winter coats at the match against in conjunction with Channel 7's ?Coats for Colorado' campaign. Fans who bring a gently used or new coat will receive admission for $1.

 

The Red Raiders enter the match against CU with a 5-12 overall record. They are on a four-match losing streak after defeating Texas-Pan American on Sept. 20. TTU has not won a league contest in six tries this season, although the Red Raiders have gone five sets with Oklahoma twice. TTU was the lone team that CU defeated during the 2007 conference schedule.

 

The Buffs lead the all-time series 20-4. CU is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. Both of the losses against the Red Raiders have been in five sets in Lubbock, Texas.

 

Texas is currently ranked third in the latest CBS Sports Network/AVCA Top 25 Poll. The Longhorns are 10-2 overall and are 4-1 in the Big 12. The only loss UT has suffered in conference play was to the second-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Longhorns will face off with Baylor on Wednesday prior to playing the Buffs on Saturday.

 

UT is attacking at a .325 clip which leads the conference. Middle blocker Lauren Paolini is hitting a league-best .463 and outside hitter Destinee Hooker is averaging a league-best 4.28 kps.

 

The Longhorns own the series with a 20-8 margin. CU is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings. The last time the Buffs beat Texas was on Nov. 19, 2003 in Austin, Texas.
