Colorado 76, St. Louis 63 Notes

December 22, 2008 | Women's Basketball

  • Colorado (5-4) enjoyed its second-best games in both field goal shooting (23-of-44, 52.3) and free throw shooting (25-of-29, 86.2).  CU had better outings in both in just the win over Colorado State, when it shot 52.5 percent from the floor and 91.7 from the line.
  • The Buffs are now 4-0 when shooting 45 percent or better from the field.
  • CU kept St. Louis (4-8) from winning two straight games for the first time since last January; the Billikens had won at Wyoming on Saturday, 74-59.
  • CU has been on fire the last three halves from the line, converting 41-of-49 free throws (84 percent); that has lifted the team free throw shooting on the year from 63.5 to 68.8.
  • The Buffs were outrebounded for the seventh time in nine games, but are 3-4 in those instances (2-0 when winning the rebound battle).
  • All five wins for Colorado in 2008-09 have been double-digit victories (this was the first of the five that wasn't at least by 22); CU's average margin for the five wins is 25.2.
  • Colorado ended the first half on a 28-10 run after St. Louis took its last lead at 13-12 with 10:27 remaining.  CU closed making 9-of-12 shots, including seven in a row at one point and three 3-pointers, while St. Louis was 3-of-15.
  • The 40 first half points by CU were its fourth most in the first half this year; CU is now 4-0 when scoring that many in the first stanza.
  • This marked the fifth time in nine games that Brittany Spears led CU in scoring (21 points); it was also the fifth occasion she scored 20 or more points and she continues to lead CU with 20.1 points per game.
  • This was the closest game prior to Christmas for CU since 2000, the last time the Buffs played on this date (Dec. 22); Colorado is now 5-2 on this date.
