Colorado-Nebraska Quotes

February 06, 2008 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller

GENERAL ? “I think that at the end of the game Nebraska knew they were going to win the game. And we were wondering if we would win the game. I thought that we made a lot of adjustments in the first half, and rested a lot of players. We also had a good rotation of players. It was a really strong first half performance with exception of the run Nebraska had at the end. I thought that we handled ourselves for 37 minutes of the game. It was a rough night for Jackie [McFarland], there is not doubt about it. She was being doubled by two of the strongest post players in the conference. I thought that Caley Dow came in and did a nice job and responded well to the double team. We have to learn and get better from these particular games.”

ON TEAM EFFORT ? “I am not displeased. I did not like the turnovers at the end of the game because we were in a position to score out of our sets. I am displeased with the outcome there is no doubt. This is one that we let get away. We could not have made any better adjustments.”

ON NEBRASKA'S STRATEGY - “Well you know I would love to go one on one against people every now and then but that's not going to happen.  I think they had a good game plan.  I've gotten used to taking it from a post and a guard, but with two posts its just two big bodies and it's not smart to go up against them, and try and score against them.  In the first half, we were doing a great job; people on the team were scoring.  It almost felt like near the end of the game we were going to pull it out.   It's not so much if I get my points, it's if the team gets their points and I think we did that for awhile.”

ON OTHER PLAYERS STEPPING UP - “I think that's huge, Caley Dow is someone who came off and had a great game for us.  I think its important to get them team involved especially down the stretch of the Big 12, the season is long, and I can't take 40 minutes of two posts being thrown at me all game long.  I think it's good to get the other posts in to get their confidence.”

Nebraska Head Coach Connie Yori

General

“There are not too many times I'm speechless, but I didn't have much to say in that locker room.  We played with tremendous toughness and the leader of that toughness was Kelsey (Griffin).  We scored, and we found ways to score down the stretch.  We were down by four with about four minutes to go, but in this league you have to find ways to win close games.  We did a great job guarding Jackie McFarland.  We doubled her a decent amount and put different people on her.  She is such a physical kid inside, it was a good idea to have different bodies on her.  We gave up a lot of three's in the first half and definitely have to get better defensively.  In this league there are great players at every position.”

Jr. F. Kelsey Griffin-

“It's great to have a big game, but I don't want to us to focus on what I did, but on what my team did.  Yvonne (Turner) stepped up huge and hit clutch three's, but it's not even the three's it was her overall play.  We definitely learned from the K-State game; it hust to lose in those last seconds.”
