WACO, Texas ? In a battle between two of the Big 12 Conference unbeatens, the Baylor University Bears, ranked No. 2 nationally defended its home court and defeated the Colorado tennis team, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Baylor Tennis Center.

Baylor rebounds from a 4-3 loss to No. 1 ranked Northwestern on Wednesday and improves 18-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Buffaloes are coming off a tough, 4-3 loss at No. 27 LSU, also played on Wednesday in Baton Rouge. CU falls to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Baylor holds a 10-6 edge in the head-to-head series against CU.

Friday was a battle of the unbeatens not just in conference standings, but the student-athletes head-to-head battles on the court. Baylor and Colorado pitted unbeaten singles and doubles records against one another with one month remaining in the conference season.

In doubles, CU suffered all three losses at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2, sophomore Melisa Esposito and junior Franziska Jendrian suffered their first loss in 10 matches of the spring, falling 8-6 to the nation's No. 54 ranked team. At No. 3, freshman Abbie Probert and senior Gleisy Torres Torres saw their seven-match win streak and 3-0 conference record come to an end, falling 8-4.

Trailing 1-0 entering singles play, the Bears showed why they're the No. 2 nationally ranked team winning the first three singles slots in straight sets. Baylor's top three women are all ranked in the top 30.

In the other singles matches, senior Veera Nurmi fell in three sets at No. 4 the No. 62 ranked player, while Baylor closed the match taking both No. 5 and No. 6 slots in straight sets.

CU travels to Texas Tech (8-6, 1-2) for another conference battle on Sunday, March 28 at 11 a.m. The Buffaloes close out the home season April 4 (Texas) and April 6 (Texas A&M) at the South Campus Courts.
