Colorado-Missouri Notes

March 05, 2008 | Women's Basketball

Colorado improves its all-time series lead against Missouri to 37-26 and gains a season sweep of the Tigers for the first time since 2004. CU won 70-58 in Columbia on Jan. 9.

With the win Colorado (16-13) guarantees itself a winning record for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

Colorado will be the No. 9 seed in the 2008 Big 12 Championship and will play No. 8 seed Iowa State in the opening game of the tournament on Tuesday, March 11, at 11 a.m. MST at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. Iowa State swept the regular season series with Colorado.

Missouri's 47 points in tonight's game ties its lowest in output in series history, equaling 78-47 CU win on Feb. 13, 2002.

Colorado established a new single-season school record for 3-pointers with 198, breaking the previous school record of 196 set during the 2001-02 season. The Buffs made 2-of-16 on the evening, tying a season-low for 3-pointers made. Jackie McFarland provided the Buffs with the record breaker at the 14:16 mark of the second half.

Senior Jackie McFarland scored 25 points, becoming the first player in school history to score 500 points in three different seasons. Her career totals improve to 1,836 which leaves her 22 behind Tera Bjorklund for second place on CU's all-time scoring list.

McFarland had 14 rebounds to become the third player in team history to reach 1,000 career rebounds. She now has 1,004.

McFarland recorded her eighth double-double of the season and 45th of her career, second on CU's all-time list. She also moved past Erin Scholz (1993-97) into sole possession of second place for double-digit rebounding games with her 47th tonight.

McFarland's 12-of-12 performance from the free throw line ties for the second-best single-game performance in team history joining Mandy Nightingale who was 12-of-12 against Florida on Dec. 22, 2000. Gretchen DeWitte holds the school record at 13-of-13 against Nebraska on Feb. 7, 1987.

Junior center Kara Richards had a season-high 11 rebounds and her most since grabbing 13 against Missouri in Boulder, on Jan. 3, 2007.

Junior Hannah Skildum had seven points, her most since scoring eight against Texas A&M on Jan. 16.

Brittany Spears' 10 points gives her 401 on the season, fifth most in team history by a freshman.
