Spikers Open Big 12 Season

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado volleyball team will host Kansas on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Coors Events Center to start the Big 12 Conference season.

The Buffs will then travel to Manhattan, Kan. to face off with No. 18 Kansas State on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. (MST).

Admission to the match on Sept. 17 against KU will be $1 for fans wearing black in preparation for the CU Blackout on Thursday, Sept. 18 (football vs. West Virginia) at 6:30 p.m. at Folsom Field.

CU is 11-11 in conference openers. The Buffs are 6-6 in the Big 12 era and were 5-5 in Big Eight play. Colorado won its last home conference opener against No. 17 Missouri on Sept. 13, 2006 in five-games.

The Buffs are currently 6-3 heading into this week. Kansas is also 6-3. The Buffs lead the overall series against KU by a 33-11 margin; although the two teams have spilt the series 5-5 in the previous 10 meetings. The Jayhawks won both matches last year but CU took the three meetings prior.

The Wildcats are 10-1 overall and will face No. 2 Nebraska on Wednesday prior to its Saturday match-up against the Buffs. CU also owns the series against KSU, but by a slimmer margin at 25-18. The Buffs are just 4-6 in the last 10 meetings against the Wildcats.

CU ranks 47^th in assists per set (12.48) in the NCAA and is tied for 48^th in digs (15.45 dps). Senior Lauren Schaefer is 39^th in the nation with a .389 attack percentage.
