CU (2-2) is 0-3 all-time against the Cardinal (2-0). The teams last met in 1980.
“We didn't close some of the games as I hoped we would,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “Against a top-five team you need to that. However, we competed hard and tomorrow we have another tough opponent in UNLV.”
The Buffs were unable to claim the doubles point. The team of Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette, ranked No. 41 nationally defeated Melisa Esposito and Camila Belassi, 8-1 at the No. 1 slot. Stanford's Carolyn McVeigh and Jessica Nguyen claimed an 8-1 victory over Franziska Jendrian and Anuszkiewicz at No. 2; and in the final doubles competition, Abbie Probert and Michala Hedelund Jensen fell to Veronica Li and Jennifer Yen, 8-3 at No. 3.
In singles, Barte (No. 26 nationally) took the first singles victory defeating Esposito 6-1, 6-0. Stanford kept the winning momentum going as Nguyen and Courtney Clayton both secured singles victories over the Buffs.
CU's Anuszkiewicz defeated Li, scoring the Buffs only point for her first collegiate singles victory at the No. 5 slot.
Stanford's McVeigh and Burdette (ranked No. 97) scored two more singles victories to round out the match.
