Colorado-Grambling State Quotes

December 31, 2009 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller

On the Defensive Play
"I am just really pleased with the defense. We spent a lot time preparing for Grambling's on ball sets. They literally did not have the opportunity to run a set because of the pressure in the first half. We just really took them out of what they wanted to run. They came down and took quick shots. I am not happy we gave up 5 offensive rebounds though."

On the Offensive Play
"We did not settle on the offensive end. We made the extra pass. I thought that Grambling changed their defense on us a lot, so they threw a lot at us in a 40 minute period. I love the way we executed. The way we finished the game with the players we had on the floor, I thought it was the first time we were that consistent for a 40 minute period. The players that came off the bench really picked up from where the starters left off."

On Playing Virginia
"It is another game. There is no doubt that playing against your alma mater in Virginia which holds a very special place in my heart. I had some of the best years of my life there. To have to opportunity to have a coach that was truly a mentor to me, come into our house and coach against her is great. I am very excited about. It was a tough game for us last year going up there, but I think we are a better team this year, so going into that feeling this way is a very positive thing."

Colorado Players

Brittany Spears
ON PLAYING VIRGINIA - "I am ready for that game. They are a top-25 team, so we have to get ready the next couple days of practice."

Meagan Malcolm-Peck
ON THE TEAM - "I think that the team is doing amazing. I think that we have started out really well with all the freshman adjusting well, and the upper classmen taking us under their wing. It is a good experience."

ON THE SEASON SO FAR - "I didn't want to come in with expectations. I just wanted to do the best I can to help the team."

Grambling State Head Coach Donnita Rogers

On End To Current Road Trip
"We actually got to work on some defensive changes that we have that are going to help us in our conference. Our preseason is officially behind us and now we have our floor to look forward to as we open up SWAC [Southwestern Athletic Conference] play. That's how we are trying to approach the loss tonight."

On Play of Whitney Brow
"I was really pleased she played a little bigger. We were very small in the post tonight. They stepped up and did a good job. We tried to get here a couple of days early to get used to the altitude, but I'm not sure that is possible. I'm really pleased we didn't give up and we fought hard to the end. We got a lot of good film for us to watch and get better at when we get back. "

On Team's Rebounding Performance
"We could have done better. I was real pleased with some of the fundamental things. We blocked out really well, we got several over the back calls on Colorado. We try to be committed to making sure that we have a rear in their stomach every time. Those are the kind of small things that are going to help us advance ourselves in conference play."

On Colorado's Overall Play
"34 [Courtney Dunn] hit some shots outside that I was not expecting. Other than that they are a great team. I think they are going to do well this year in the Big 12. I look forward to watching them down the road. They are very well coached and they are a well disciplined team. They are very balanced, like I said 34 wasn't supposed to be able to shoot that well outside tonight."
